摘要： Disclosed is a backlight control apparatus for controlling a backlight used in a liquid crystal display, the backlight having a lighting area that includes a plurality of blocks in each of which a backlight luminance is individually allowed to change. The apparatus includes a backlight control unit that calculates the backlight luminance of each block so that the absolute value of the difference between a backlight lighting ratio and 1 is at or below a first value, and controls the backlight so as to yield the calculated backlight luminances of the respective blocks, the backlight lighting ratio being the ratio between backlight set values of neighboring blocks.

摘要： A liquid crystal display (LCD) device having a side backlight unit that minimizes or eliminates extraneous bright lines on the LCD panel. The side backlight unit includes a lamp reflector and lamp disposed on a light incident side surface of a light guide plate. A light reflection layer is formed on the inner surface of the lamp reflector, and a transparent protective layer is formed on the reflection layer. The transparent protective layer has a thickness less than 5 micrometers. The lamp reflector has arm portions that sandwich the light guide plate on the front and back surfaces at the lamp side of the light guide plate. A light transmission region between the arm portions of the lamp reflector and the front and back surfaces of the light guide plate has a thickness less than 5 micrometers.

摘要： A light source system includes: a light source having a plurality of lighting sections each including one or more light-emitting diodes and controllable independently of one another; a light-sensing device detecting light from the light source in which the lighting sections are allowed to illuminate independently of one another; and a light source control means for controlling the light source by changing at least light emission intensity of each lighting section on the basis of a detected light amount, wherein the light source control means adjusts light emission currents in each lighting section in consideration of variation, among the plurality of lighting sections, in light emission characteristics showing a relationship between light emission currents flowing through the light-emitting diodes in a lighting section that illuminates and the detected light amount, thereby the light source control means controls the light emission intensity of each lighting section.

摘要： A sidelight type light source device increases the quantity of light in a corner portion of a light guide plate at low cost while meeting a demand for picture frame narrowing. An incident surface receives light from a stick-shaped light source. The incident surface includes a first incident surface its center a pair or second incident surfaces at the ends of the first incident surface. The second incident surfaces are formed on a corner portion in a width direction of the light guide plate. The second incident surfaces are set back from the first incident surface taken as a reference. Accordingly, a light introducing route is defined between the second incident surface and rubber blocks at the ends of a fluorescent light source. Light from the fluorescent lamp passes along the light introducing route where it is directly incident on the second incident surfaces of the light guide plate.

摘要： A liquid crystal display includes: a light source unit that includes a light-guiding plate with a light-exit plane partitioned into emission subsections, and one or plural sides, and light sources; a liquid-crystal-display panel that includes pixels, and modulates light emitted from the light source unit, thereby performing image display; and a display control unit that includes a partitioning-drive processing section generating each of a light-emission pattern signal and a partitioning-drive image signal, performs light-emission driving for each light source, and performs display driving for each pixel. The partitioning-drive processing section performs a gain correction of multiplying each pixel signal in the input image signal by a predetermined gain factor that is set so that a value increases as a pixel position of the pixel signal goes away from the light source, and generates the light-emission pattern signal and the partitioning-drive image signal, by using gain-corrected pixel signal.
