The relative height between two sets of magnetic head groups shared for recording and reproduction and mounted on actuators is adjusted at high accuracy, so that a track of a predetermined track width and track pitch can be formed. In a rotary head type magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus including two sets of magnetic head groups AT and BT of one or a plurality of magnetic heads displaceable in the track width direction by actuators 100A and 100B, a signal which becomes the reference for relative height adjustment of the heads is recorded by one of the magnetic head groups. Then, the magnetic tape is rewound, and the run of the magnetic tape is controlled by one of the magnetic head groups. Under this state, the relative height between the two sets of magnetic head groups is detected by the other magnetic head group, whereby the relative height of the two sets of magnetic head groups is adjusted according to that information.

A magnetic tape driving apparatus includes: a stationary magnetic head capable of recording and reproducing digital signals simultanouesly on multichannel tracks; tape guide members for drawing out a magnetic tape wound on a pair of tape supply/take-up reels contained in a cassette, contacting the magnetic tape with the stationary magnetic head, and guiding running of the magnetic tape; and a constant speed driving mechanism for holding the magnetic tape and making it run at a constant speed by capstans and pinch rollers provided on both of tape feed/take-up sides of the stationary magnetic head. The stationary magnetic head and the tape guide members having level regulators for regulating running positions of upper and lower edges of the magnetic tape, to regulate the level of running of the tape with high precision. The rotating speeds of the capstans on both of the tape feed/take-up sides are regulated, whereby the tension of the tape is maintained at a desired prescribed value, to ensure a stable running of the tape.

A rotary head type magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus according to the present invention includes a recording format in which a plurality of pilot signals of different frequencies are recorded to be superimposed sequentially on a main signal for every other track. The magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus includes a single head structure where a plurality of magnetic heads are attached to a plurality of actuators in a one-to-one correspondence. For one magnetic head detecting a relative position error signal out of the plurality of magnetic heads, dynamic tracking under closed loop control is carried out. For another magnetic head that does not detect a relative position error signal, open loop control or semi-closed loop control is carried out according to information concerning the amount of displacement of the one magnetic head. Thus, a magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus is provided that allows highly accurate dynamic tracking without providing many pilot signal generation means and without reducing the manufacturing yield of a head drum.

A loading lever having loading lever pins is fixed on a main chassis. Loading arms having loading arm depressed portions are rotatably attached to a slide chassis. The loading arm depressed portion engages with the loading lever pin, and the loading arm depressed portion is engaged with the loading lever pin, and in this state, the slide chassis moves in the direction of the arrow B. Therefore, loading arms move in the direction of the arrows J and K. Since the loading arms are rotated, it becomes unnecessary to slide the loading lever, and therefore, the structure of the magnetic recording reproducing apparatus can be made simple.
