摘要: A method, system and program for measuring magnetic tape track distortion are provided. The invention comprises defining specifications for tape track distortion acceptability and using tape head servo readers to collect component position error signal (PES) data from servo tracks on a magnetic tape. The separate PES data are analyzed to determine tape distortion. The data can also be adjusted for reliability factors that might affect the confidence of the PES data. The distortion data for the tape is then compared to the defined specifications and a determination is made as to whether the tape meets acceptability standards.

摘要: A data conversion method from m bits of data words into n bits of code words in recording or transmission, in which n is larger than m. A number of bit "0" arranged between one bit "1" and a next bit "1" is restricted to at most 4 in a code string of each code word, and a pair of groups of the n bits of code words corresponding to CDSs (code word digital sum) of two codes +1 and -1 are allowed to correspond to the m bits of data words. One of the two codes +1 and -1 is selectively used according to a DSV (digital sum variation) control signal to convert the m bits of data word into the n bits of code word. A pilot signal formation method using the data conversion method for obtaining a tracking error signal in a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, and a rotary magnetic head device for use in a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus are also disclosed.

摘要: The disclosed video signal reproducing apparatus reproduces a video signal from a recording medium having adjacent tracks which carry recordings of video signals and recordings of pilot signals with different frequencies superposed on the video signal. A reproducing head traces each of the tracks for reproducing a video signal. A signal processing arrangement obtains a tracking control signal in accordance with the pilot signals obtained from the reproducing head. A compensator compensates for the effect of the tracking control signal on the basis of the frequency characteristic of the reproducing head in the frequency band of the pilot signals.

摘要: A rotary head type magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus according to the present invention includes a recording format in which a plurality of pilot signals of different frequencies are recorded to be superimposed sequentially on a main signal for every other track. The magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus includes a single head structure where a plurality of magnetic heads are attached to a plurality of actuators in a one-to-one correspondence. For one magnetic head detecting a relative position error signal out of the plurality of magnetic heads, dynamic tracking under closed loop control is carried out. For another magnetic head that does not detect a relative position error signal, open loop control or semi-closed loop control is carried out according to information concerning the amount of displacement of the one magnetic head. Thus, a magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus is provided that allows highly accurate dynamic tracking without providing many pilot signal generation means and without reducing the manufacturing yield of a head drum.
