A structure of a cylinder assembly of an internal combustion engine has a coolant circulating system for cooling the cylinder assembly while the engine is driving. The cylinder assembly generally comprises a cylinder block formed therein a plurality of engine cylinder in line, and a cylinder head sealingly mounted on the cylinder block. The coolant circulating system comprises a coolant chamber formed within the cylinder block so that it surrounds substantial part of each engine cylinder, a return passage formed in the cylinder head. The coolant chamber communicates with the return passage through a plurality of vertical passages. Adjacent the top of the vertical passage, there is provided with a projecting portion inwardly projecting thereto. A sloped passage is formed within a partition disposed between each of adjacent engine cylinder. The upper end of the sloped passage is opened at the projecting portion at right angle to the planar surface of the projecting portion. By forming the projecting portion within the vertical passage and forming the sloped passage extending therefrom at right angle, it makes easy to form the sloped passage within the partition. Further, by forming the sloped passage as the manner mentioned above, the cylinder assembly is easily prevented from leakage of coolant and/or air/fuel mixture discharged to the engine cylinder.

An automobile is provided with an altitude compensated fuel feed means which comprises a fuel feed circuit with an air bleed orifice, an independent additional air supply passage leading to the fuel feed circuit, an air bleed control valve for opening the additional air supply passage, and a control unit with a manually operable part. The manually operable part is disposed in a passenger compartment. Operative interconnection between the control unit and the air bleed control valve is such that manually operating the manually operable part will cause the air bleed control valve to be opened to permit the entry of additional air into the fuel feed circuit, thereby making altitude compensation of the fuel feed means easy.

A double overhead camshaft engine having two camshafts rotatably supported by a cylinder head. This two camshafts are drivably connected through an idler gear with a crankshaft of the engine by means of drive chains. The idler gear is rotatably mounted on an idler gear installation bolt which is fixedly secured only to a front end section of the cylinder head in a so-called cantilever arrangement. A surrounding wall structure for the idler gear is formed integral with the front end section of the cylinder head and extends in the direction of axis of the idler gear over the idler gear to form a front end section. An opening is formed at the surrounding wall structrure front end section and located on an opposite side of the cylinder head front end section with respect to the idler gear. The opening is closed with a cover which is disposed spaced from the idler gear installation bolt, so that no connection is made to the idler gear and the installation bolt therefor.

A window heating apparatus for use with an automotive vheicle including a vehicle battery, an internal combustion engine, a transmission, and a generator for generating an output voltage corresponding to engine speed. A voltage regulator is switchably connected to the vehicle battery and, when connected, controls current to the field winding to maintain a constant generator output voltage. A heating element is provided for heating a vehicle window when connected to the generator output terminals. A signal indicative of a demand for heating the vehicle window and a signal indicating when the transmission is in neutral or park are provided. A circuit normally connects the generator output terminal to the vehicle battery and the voltage generator. The circuit, in response to a command signal, connects the generator output terminal to the element while disconnecting the generator output terminal from the vehicle battery and the voltage regulator. The command signal, which is produced in response to the vehicle window heating demand signal, is interrupted except when the transmission is in neutral or park to avoid excessive voltage which might damage the heating element. While the command signal is present, engine idling speed is controlled to change the generator output voltage delivered to the heater element, dependent on vehicle-compartment temperature. Also while the command signal is present, current to the field winding is interrupted if the generator output voltage exceeds a predeterminedd value.
