Image data are transferred on the optical shutter unit corresponding to the movement of the photosensitive member so as to move an image formed thereby on the photosensitive member while keeping the relative position of the image with respect to the photosensitive member.

A liquid crystal display device is constituted by a pair of electrode plates each having a plurality of elongated electrodes, and a layer of ferroelectric liquid crystal disposed between the electrode plates so as to form a pixel at each intersection of elongated electrodes disposed respectively on the pair of electrodes plates. At least one electrode plate is provided with an unevenness at each pixel so as to form a cell thickness gradient within each pixel, and at least one electrode plate is provided with at least three types of color filters each corresponding to a pixel. Further, each color filter and/or each pixel is set to have an area and/or a shape varying depending on a local cell thickness so that light quantities or sensible light quantities transmitted through the respective filters and the liquid crystal layer are identical to each other regardless of the type of color filter. A similar pixel pattern deformation is effective for providing a linear T (transmittance)--log V (voltage) characteristic. Color pixels pattern deformation may preferably be effected in a complementary manner with respect to different colors.

An organic EL display apparatus has a driving circuit. In the driving circuit, the source and drain of a driving transistor and the anode and cathode of an organic EL device are connected in series between voltage sources. A current passes between the source and drain of the driving transistor and between the anode and cathode of the organic EL device in accordance with a voltage between the gate and source of the driving transistor. Consequently, the organic EL device emits light. In order to store the voltage in the capacitor, a constant voltage source is connected to the gate of the driving transistor and the above-described series connection is disconnected at the source of the driving transistor and connected to a signal source. Then, a current signal output from the signal source passes between the source and drain of the driving transistor, and charges are stored in a capacitor in accordance with the current signal.
