    摘要: A plastic container is configured for high pressure containment of fluid. The plastic container includes a tubular body portion generally symmetric about a vertical axis, and a base portion unitary with the body portion and having a plurality of feet for supporting the container upright on a horizontal surface. In cross-section, the base of the container is defined by a first line comprising a series of curves of serially diminishing radius from the body portion through the axis to each of the feet. The series of curves having centers of curvature alternating between positions inside the container and positions outside the container.

    摘要: A blow-molded container of thermoplastic resin has a hollow body with a generally cylindrical side wall portion rotationally symmetric about a longitudinal axis of the container. A shoulder portion integrally joins the side wall portion to a finish. An integral base merging with the side wall portion is defined by an outer surface comprising a plurality of downward projections separated from each other by generally arcuate segments extending essentially from the cylindrical side wall to the longitudinal axis of the container. The bottom of the container includes a web extending between a central portion adjacent the longitudinal axis of the container and a generally perpendicular ring segment in each of the downward projections for providing enhanced stability against deflection during entry of the filling liquid into the container which aids in the prevention of bottom failure from stress cracking associated with the rigors of the filling procedure.

    摘要: A bottle stress analysis system using polarized light for determining stress levels of a transparent plastic bottle includes a rotation assembly for rotating the bottle. A polarized light source assembly is insertible into the bottle cavity to direct plane polarized light through the bottle wall and an analyzer assembly is positioned outside the bottle for measuring intensity of light passing through the bottle wall. In order to measure changes in polarization, the analyzer assembly has a polarization analyzer positioned to transmit the light to a photodetector. A mechanism for rotating either the polarized light source or the analyzer to determine maximum and minimum polarized light intensity at the photodetector facilitates determination of stress at a plurality of points along the bottle wall. A computer controlled analysis of the polarized light intensity can be used to produce a stress profile of the bottle, permitting rejection of bottles having abnormal internal stress that are likely to fail under internal pressure loading.

The preform body includes a cylindrical thickened portion which upon blowing forms said continuous standing ring. The central push-up region of the plastic bottle is formed from that portion of the preform below the cylindrical thickened portion. The portion of the preform below the cylindrical thickened portion includes features contributing to enhanced bottle bottom strength while minimizing the amount of resin employed in the structure.

    摘要: A plastic bottle having a substantially uniform side wall thickness yet having a sculptured appearance is formed generally symmetrically about a vertical axis. The bottle includes a base portion, a side wall portion extending upward from a lower margin united to the base portion to an upper margin, a shoulder portion extending from the upper margin of the side wall portion to a neck portion, and a finish portion united to the neck portion and adapted to receive a closure. At least one of the side wall and shoulder portions includes a plurality of generally vertical ribs spaced uniformly around a circumference of the bottle, each generally vertical rib having an upper and lower end and, in cross-section, a central portion situated at a first radius from the bottle axis and a pair of generally symmetric side portions leading to the bottle surface at a second radius from the bottle axis, at least one set of the upper and lower ends of the ribs terminating at a common height on the container. Only one of the upper and lower ends of the ribs on each portion of the bottle is joined together by a set of arcuate rib segments forming a scalloped line around the circumference of the bottle giving the appearance of a substantial variation in side wall thickness.
