    摘要: A method and apparatus for harvesting trees includes provision for removing the limbs from a tree and cutting the delimbed tree into logs. The method and apparatus can operate on standing trees or felled trees. In the performance of the delimbing and cutting operation, the tree is gripped at one end with a gripper-shear mechanism. If the tree is standing, the shear cuts the tree at the base of the tree. In both operations, namely, where the apparatus is working on a standing or on a felled tree, a delimbing mechanism is moved along a first length of the tree to delimb that first length of the tree while the tree is supported by the gripper-shear mechanism and the delimbing mechanism. The gripper-shear mechanism is subsequently moved to a position adjacent to the delimbing mechanism so that the gripper-shear mechanism is positioned a predetermined length from one end of the tree. The gripper-shear mechanism is then actuated to cut the tree so that a log having a predetermined length is produced thereby.

    摘要: A method, system and apparatus for minimizing the amounts of undesirable pollutants emitted from an internal combustion engine after combustion of a fuel-air mixture within a cylinder of said engine in which a portion of the products of combustion of a given operating cycle, which portion contains a higher proportion of noxious constituents than does the expelled portion of such products, is retained in the cylinder and is mixed with the incoming charge for the next operating cycle. One particular form of the invention comprises varying the proportion of such retained products according to engine operating conditions in order to maintain the dilution of such incoming charge at the maximum level consistent with good engine performance. The retained products are in an amount in excess of that normally retained in the cylinder clearance volume at the exhaust manifold pressure.

    摘要: Warehousing system apparatus has a storage rack with several vertically and horizontally related storage elements. A mast is moved horizontally on rails parallel to the face of a storage rack, and a platform moves vertically along the mast in response to signals from a three-brush signal wire pickup on a control wire strung along the rack. Vertical and horizontal hydraulic drives and controls are independent so that the platform may fly or move diagonally in the shortest line between locations in the storage rack. Electric motors constantly operate hydraulic pumps; pump output is controlled by stepping motors having telemetering switches to indicate pumping direction. A positive neutral band is provided in the hydraulic system for better drive control. A carrier which is driven from the platform into the rack has a cam means to change the position of load driving lugs each time the carrier is driven to a maximum displacement from the platform.

    摘要: A manual digital scale system having a load cell for sensing the instantaneous mechanical load applied to a system and circuit means for coupling the load cell signal to a current summation point. A digital potentiometer arrangement is provided to produce current in digital steps, and means are provided to couple that current to the current summation point. An oscillator which may operate in the order of 2,500 Hz supplies power to the load cell at first and second phases. The output of the load cell is at a first phase, and the oscillator supplies power to the digital potentiometer at the second phase. The first and second phases are substantially 180* apart, and therefore current supplied by the digital potentiometer to the current summation point will subtract from current supplied thereto by the load cell. The output of the current summation point is coupled through an operational amplifier and a phase detector to a null indicator. Accordingly, the load being sustained by the load cell can be measured by gradually increasing the digital potentiometer setting until the current therefrom cancels the current output of the load cell. This condition is indicated by the null indicator. In the alternative, the output of the phase detector may be coupled to a differential amplifier and to a relay. By this latter arrangement, the value of the desired loading on the load cell can be preset into the digital potentiometer and loads such as grain or other similar goods can be gradually added to the load cell until the load is increased to the point where a null condition is obtained at the current summation point. When this occurs, the differential amplifier will reverse its position and operate the relay to trigger a signal indicating that the desired weight has been obtained. The digital potentiometer employed consists of a series of equal value resistors with a plurality of switch contacts being capable of connection to any one of the series connected resistors. Each one of the contacts has a scaling resistor connected in series therewith, and all of the contacts are connected in parallel to provide a common output. Each of the scaling resistors in sequence are one-tenth of the magnitude of the adjacent scaling resistor thereby providing an output which is digital in form.

The adjusting unit comprises a cylinder divided into two chambers by a spring-biased differential-area piston. The system fluid pressure communicates with the chamber facing the first or largest area piston face while precharge gas communicates with the chamber facing the second or smallest area piston face. To assure the precharge gas pressure will be adjusted for changes in system operating pressure only, and not for mere surges, snubbing restrictions are placed in the means connecting the hydraulic system with the precharge gas adjusting unit.

    摘要: A key for use with an electrical security system includes a plurality of contacts for conveying a binary coded permutation of electric signals to key receiving means of the system for actuating the system when the key is the proper key, a plurality of conductor paths for interconnecting at least a portion of the plurality of contacts, and control means associated with the conductor paths for controlling the conductivity therethrough. The control means has a first condition when the key is engaged with the key receiving means and second condition when the contacts are disengaged from the key receiving means. When the control means is in its first condition the contacts convey the predetermined binary coded permutation to the key receiving means so as to actuate the security system and when the control means is in its second condition the contacts are inoperable to convey the predetermined code stored on the key. Accordingly, deciphering of the key by an unauthorized person is prevented when the key is disengaged from the key receiving means and the control means is in its second condition.
