    摘要: An underwater communication system wherein communication is achieved through an alternating electric field between spacedapart pairs of transmitting and receiving electrodes in conductive contact with the water. The transmitting and receiving electrodes are horizontally oriented and two pairs of orthogonally disposed receiving electrodes can be used to provide omnidirectional communication. The receiver is responsive only to properly coded signals. According to one embodiment the receiver responds only to signals of a selected frequency and duration, and is not effected by short bursts of noise or the cumulative effect of short signals. According to other embodiments various different coding and redundancy techniques are employed.

    摘要: A timing device wherein an oscillator utilizing a mechanical resonator such as a tuning fork or a crystal is used to provide a nonsymmetrical output signal which drives a synchronous motor that is specifically designed to accommodate a nonsymmetrical drive signal. The motor is constructed so that the ratio of the width of the rotor teeth to the distance between the centers thereof is comparable to the duty cycle of the oscillator output signal. Accurate timekeeping over large variations in supply voltage and ambient temperature is accomplished by utilizing as the oscillator voltage source, the potential developed across a number of series connected, forward biased diodes and by utilizing two transistors such that variations in voltage with temperature are offset by the temperature variable junctions of the transistors.

    摘要: A time-keeping device providing digital visual indication of the time. Indexing means are provided to permit digital visual indication of the time in terms of full integers. The indexing means utilized includes a cam wheel and an index wheel, the camming surfaces of the cam wheel being sloped in reverse of the ratchet teeth of the index wheel. A pawl is provided to engage the ratchet teeth of the index wheel until released by the camming surfaces of the cam wheel whereupon the index wheel rotates as a result of being continuously urged to rotate in the same direction as the cam wheel. The rotation of the index wheel is limited to a predetermined angular amount by means acting between the two wheels. Means are provided for permitting setting and adjustment of the indexing mechanism in order to cause the indicating means to permit visual observation of the correct time.

    摘要: The disclosed solid state clock drive circuit comprises cascaded ring counters, whose stages comprise at least one heater element and one thermistor. A bistable switch, in response to timing pulses, alternately connects alternate stages of each ring counter to a current source such that energizing current flows through only one stage of each ring counter. Thermal coupling between the heater element and thermistor of adjacent stages controls the transfer of energizing current flow from stage to stage upon operation of the switches. A material applied to each heater element produces a visual effect when heated, thus developing a time display.
