Abstract:
Algorithms for continuous BP monitoring using the load cell ballistocardiogram and the finger/toe photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals. This disclosure includes two different approaches; (1) a conventional pulse transit time-based model and (2) a U-Net-based model to predict BP from ballistocardiogram and PPG signals. In pulse transit time-based models, the pulse transit time was acquired through signal processing and linear regression was performed on its inverse to estimate BP. In the U-Net-based model, the source signals (ballistocardiogram and PPG) were translated to BP waveforms from which the BP values were estimated after calibration.
Abstract:
The invention provides systems and methods for the delivery of carbon to photoautotrophs. The invention utilizes low energy regeneration of adsorbent for CO2 capture and provides for effective CO2 loading into liquids useful for photoautotroph growth and/or production of photosynthetic products, such as biofuels, via photoautotrophic culture media. The inventive system comprises a fluid/membrane/fluid contactor that provides selective transfer of molecular CO2 via a dense (non-porous) membrane from a carbonate-based CO2 snipping solution to a culture medium where the CO2 is consumed by a photoautotroph for the production of biofuels, biofuel precursors or other commercial products.

Other systems and methods are also provided.
Abstract:
Disclosed are resonant vibratory gyroscopes and fabrication methods relating thereto. The angular motion sensor comprises a resonating star gyroscope which comprises a vibratory solid or shell-type structure for rate sensing or measuring angle of rotation. The structure formed as a merged superposition of two square entities, yields in-plane degenerate flexural modes that are used to sense rotation around the axis perpendicular to the substrate. The resonating star gyroscope may be implemented using the primary flexural degenerate modes. Such an implementation has been successfully demonstrated by the authors using trench-refilled polysilicon and epitaxial polysilicon as the structural material. It is also possible to use a solid star-shaped resonator (with or without perforations) for the gyroscope. The authors also suggest the operation of the resonating star gyroscope employing the higher-order flexural modes. In this particular implementation the authors utilized a (100) single crystalline structural material.
Abstract:
A system is provided for that improves video quality and resolution. The system include a processor configured with logic to estimate an image from at least one observed image to produce an estimated image, the observed image having a lower spatial resolution than the estimated image. The processor is further configured with logic to simulate steps of an imaging process and compression process and update the estimated image with statistical and/or deterministic information if further optimization is needed, otherwise designate the estimated image as a solution.
Abstract:
Disclosed are guided optical devices comprising capped polymer ridged waveguides and methods of fabrication. An exemplary waveguide has a core with a cap (CapClad), bottom cladding and side cladding. The core is patterned together with cap to form the waveguide. The cap protects the core during processing after the core is coated and dried, and the cap layer is coated. Dust particles, contamination, mechanical damage, and process-induced defects on the top surface of the core are eliminated so that waveguide loss is minimized. Propagation loss measurements for reduced-to-practice embodiments have shown a 20% improvement of the capped waveguide over existing waveguides. The manufacturing yield of optical polymer waveguides and waveguide-based polymer devices is expected to be increase.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for streaming data in a network. Whether the network is experiencing high packet loss may be determined by a rate control module. If high packet loss is experienced, data is encoded into multiple streams by a coder using temporal domain partitioning. If high packet loss is not experienced, then data may is encoded by using frequency domain partitioning. Unequal error protection is applied to each of the streams so more important bit planes in a bit of a stream are provided with more error protection than less important bit planes. The streams are transmitted along, respectively, independent paths to a decoder. The streams are decoded, and errors in the decoded streams are corrected by using information from one or more of the other decoded streams. The decoded corrected streams are reconstructed into the data.

Aspects of the invention include aza-peptide epoxide compositions that inhibit proteases, for example cysteine proteases, either in vivo or in vitro. The disclosed compounds, pharmaceutically acceptable salts, pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives, prodrugs, or combinations thereof can be used to treat disease or pathological conditions related to the activity of proteases associated with a specific disease or condition. Such treatable conditions include viral infections, stroke, neurodegenerative disease, and inflammatory disease, among others.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for reconfiguring a transport-layer protocol are disclosed. The transport-layer protocol is implemented by a plurality of transport-layer mechanisms. Each transport-layer mechanism resides in a dynamically loadable module and implements a specific area of transport-layer functionality. One method comprises: performing an initial load of a first plurality of transport-layer mechanisms into memory; unloading one of the first plurality of transport-layer mechanisms; and loading at least one transport-layer mechanism different than the first plurality. One system comprises a processor coupled to a local interface; a memory coupled to the local interface; and protocol logic stored in the memory and executable by the processor. The protocol logic comprises: monitor logic configured to detect a change in at least one network performance condition of a network communicatively coupled to the network interface; adaptation logic configured to load into the memory a transport-layer mechanism upon a notification by the monitor logic.
