摘要: An improved sump pump apparatus of submersible nature of the type in which a pump impeller is located above an intake opening for drawing sump water through the intake opening and expelling the same through a pump discharge connection. The pump impeller is immediately adjacent the top of the intake opening, the top of the intake opening including a lubricating surface and the impeller being positioned as closely as possible to the top. A debris trap is situated within the pump beneath the intake opening to capture small debris, such as sand and stones, which are drawn into the pump by the impeller. Air relief means is located the discharge outlet for the sump pump in particular situations.

摘要: A plastic vessel forming a float is secured to one end of a plastic tube. The other end of the tube is fixedly mounted and intermediate the ends is a hinge section. Two mercury switches are positioned in the vessel at different angles of inclination with respect to the axis of the vessel so that as the vessel pivots about the hinge with variations in the level of the liquid upon which the vessel floats, the switches close at different positions of the float. The angle of inclination of one of the mercury switches is adjustable.

摘要: All of the components of a sump pump apparatus necessary to be in the sump are enclosed in a common case. In one embodiment, this case is of plastic and holds the motor means, the pump impeller and at least part of the water level sensors. The motor means is in a bell holding trapped air so that the water cannot reach the motor means. In one such embodiment the motor means is a single D.C. motor and in another embodiment it consists of a D.C. motor coupled by a one-way clutch to an A.C. motor which in turn is connected to the pump impeller. In each of these two embodiments, the water level sensor includes a tube having an open end in the bell to sample the air pressure in the bell and an end externally of the sump connected to a pressure actuated switch which turns on the motor means at a particular air pressure above ambient. Also within the bell is a float operated switch serving as a back-up to the air actuated switch. Using two motors, as mentioned above, the A.C. motor is turned on by an air pressure actuator at a lower air pressure above ambient than is the D.C. motor.In another embodiment the case is cylindrical and elongated in the direction of its axis. The lower end of the case extends into the sump while the upper end stands above the sump. On the upper end are two motors, two pumps and the related controls. The intake lines for the pump extend down within the case into the sump, as do air pressure sampling tubes. One motor is turned on by a pressure actuated switch at a relatively low pressure above ambient while the other motor is turned on by a pressure actuated switch at a comparatively higher pressure over ambient.

摘要: A sump motor is mounted in a section of pipe. The motor is a standard motor having special caps at each end of the motor shell and with the shell forming a waterproof enclosure. The caps have radially extending spacers extending out to the pipe. At each end of the pipe are reducers, the internal diameter of the small ends of which correspond to the external diameter of another, smaller standard pipe size. At the bottom a piece of pipe of the smaller size extends inwardly of the reducer to a location in juxtaposition to the pump impeller. Various connections and mounting arrangements may be made using standard sizes of pipe. In one embodiment the pump is mounted on a vertical track and positioned above a sump. When the water rises to a level in the sump at which pumping should commence, the motor is energized and the pump is lowered along the track into the sump.

摘要: A sump containing a conventional sump pump has a battery operated emergency pump. A trapped air pressure operated switch turns the emergency pump on when the water level rises excessively in the sump and an alarm signal is given. If the trapped air operated switch fails to turn the pump on, a non-mechanical float switch does so after a further rise in the liquid level in the sump and at the same time an emergency warning signal is produced. The float switch also turns on the emergency pump if that pump had not previously been turned on due to a malfunction in the trapped air switch. When the emergency pump turns on, a battery charger is energized from the alternating current supply so as to prevent depletion of the battery so long as the alternating current is available. Normally, the battery charger is turned on periodically by a timer to maintain adequate battery charge on a regulated basis. If battery power fails alarm is actuated. An alarm is actuated when alternating current power failure occurs. Low level of battery electrolyte is indicated by an alarm. Provision is made for connection of sensors for other detrimental conditions, e.g., fire, burglar, freezer temperature, etc. Included in the alarm signals available is the actuation of an automatic telephone dialer to summon assistance.

摘要: The cover of a ceiling mounted smoke detector is hung at one side by a chain from the detector frame. At the other side the cover has a clip which engages the smoke detector battery. Thus if the battery is not in place the cover hangs down from the chain providing a signal indicative of the absence of the battery. A flag is provided which is pivotally mounted inside the cover and movable on the pivot through an opening in the bottom of the cover. A magnet attached to the flag magnetically engages the diaphragm of the horn alarm in the smoke detector and maintains the flag at a raised position within the cover. When the horn alarm is sounded, the vibration of the diaphragm causes disengagement of the magnet whereupon the flag pivots downwardly to a position at which it extends below the cover. This provides a visual indication that the horn alarm has been sounded.
