    摘要: A method of characterizing transmission of a node of a wireless network is disclosed. The method includes determining a neighbor function based on how many neighboring nodes are affected by a neighbor function based on how many neighboring nodes are affected by signals transmitted from the node at varying power levels. For a range of transmission path losses between the node and neighboring nodes, transmission power levels and transmission data rates are calculated that minimize an air-time metric, wherein the air-time metric is dependent on the neighbor function and an air-time occupied by transmission packets.

    摘要: An apparatus and method of a mobile access node selecting a data transmission rate is disclosed. The method includes the mobile access node receiving beacons from a plurality of wireless clusters. Each beacon advertises a data transmission rate a gateway of the wireless cluster that originates the beacon. The mobile access node identifies at least one qualified routing path. The at least one qualified routing path includes a best quality routing path, and other routing paths having a quality within a predetermined margin of the best quality routing path. The mobile access node selects the data transmission rate of the mobile access node to be the lowest data transmission rate advertised by beacons of the at least one qualified routing path.

The second wireless access node is able to connect to the backbone network. Client information is obtained. The second wireless node provides the client a communication path to and from the destination. The communication path is able to include wired and wireless communication links. Routing of information through the communication path between the client and the destination is aided based upon detection of the client. The wireless connection between the second access node and the backbone network can include at least one wireless hop between the second access node and a fourth access node.

    摘要: An apparatus and method of determining throughput between a first host and a second host of at least one network is disclosed. The method includes the first host intentionally corrupting ICMP packets by manipulating a checksum of the ICMP packets. The first host sends the corrupted ICMP packets to the second host through the at least one network. The first host additionally sends non-corrupted ICMP packets to the second host. Based on responses from second host to the ICMP packets, the first host estimates a throughput between the first host and the second host. The throughput includes a first direction throughput from the first host to the second host, a second direction throughput from the second host to the first host, and a round trip throughput between the first host and the second host.
