摘要： A fly fishing float and/or strike indicator is attached by an interference fit to a leader, by sliding the float up the leader to a thicker-diameter portion of the leader for a tight fit, and preferably a leader-compressing fit, between the leader and an axial bore in the float. A bore surface, that is non-compressible and/or less compressible than the leader, may be supplied as an insert around which a buoyant main body of the float is formed. The insert may also have features that prevent separation of the main body from the insert and that help transmit force on the main body to the bore surface for quick and efficient securement of the float to the leader by the interference fit.

The floats may include one or more protrusions into which a small diameter end of the axial bore extends, and, during installation on the line/leader, the protrusion may be removed but snapping or cutting to reveal the bore so that that line/leader may be inserted all the way through the float and accessed at the small diameter end of the bore.

Instead, the float is attached by friction/interference fit onto a line or leader, preferably by sliding the float up the leader to a thicker-diameter portion of the leader to cause a sufficiently tight fit between the leader and an axial bore in the float. The bore may be tapered in diameter, may have a constant diameter, may have a significantly reduced or tapered diameter or another restriction in a portion(s) of the bore, and/or may have an enlarged end opening, for example. A slot may be provided from the outer surface of the float to the bore. The slot may be a straight slot, a Z-shaped slot, or other circuitous slot including curved, non-planar slots. This way, in addition to the friction/interference between the leader and the surface of the axial bore through the float, there is resistance to the leader sliding out through the slot.
