摘要: Provided herein are noninvasive stimulation methods and apparatus for the treatment of injury to tissues using a novel pulsed laser system that combines the benefits of near-infrared laser light and optoacoustic waves. In certain embodiments, short, high-energy laser light pulses generate low intensity ultrasound waves that travel deep into brain tissues to stimulate neural function and treat neurological dysfunctions. In certain embodiments, a patient interface is provided wherein optoacoustic waves are produced by a plurality of optical absorbers overlying all of a plurality of optical fibers while in other embodiments optoacoustic waves are generated both inside the tissue and outside the tissue via a plurality of optical absorbers overlying some but not all of the optical fibers thus enabling an option of varying proportions of optoacoustic waves generated inside and outside of tissue.

摘要: A dilation balloon is wrapped in one or more patterns with a wire or braided material having diamond abrasive or other abrasive material bonded thereto. The wire or braided material is vibrated in one or more ways to enhance the cutting action of the wire abrasive. The wire abrasive may be vibrated using high, low, or even ultrasonic waves transmitted to the wire abrasive via local or remote methods. Alternatively, the dilation balloon may be dilated with a contrast media that exhibits a high absorption to laser light. The contrast material is lased with a laser fiber or fibers inserted into the balloon interior, creating a substantial shockwave that vibrates the balloon and assists in the cracking or abrading of the surrounding plaque in contact with the dilation balloon. The cutting balloon may employ the abrasive coated wires described above or cutting blades.

摘要: An acoustic ablation catheter includes a mass cap mounted by a spring at the distal end of the catheter, to thereby form a structure capable of axial motion with a resonant frequency. The mass cap defines an aperture which may be used for a guide wire, for aspiration/infusion, or both. Acoustic motion of the resonant structure is generated by sources of laser light spaced about the distal end of the flexible portion of the catheter body, which produce laser light beams which produce microexplosions adjacent the proximal end of the mass cap. The sources of laser light beams may be laser chips located at the distal end of the body, or they may be the distal ends of optical fibers extending through the body from laser light generators outside the catheter itself. In one advantageous embodiment, relative motion is introduced between the mass cap and the light beams, so that erosion is distributed over a track. At least that portion of the mass cap upon which the laser light pulses impinge is made from titanium.

摘要: A shielded tip catheter for use with a pulsed energy source for fracturing deposits such as urinary and biliary stones and atherosclerotic plaque in the human body is disclosed. The flexible catheter has a shielded tip structure which is adapted for insertion through a fluid passage in a living body. The tip structure can contain an impact element, a scraping implement or a cutting implement. An energy source creates repeated rapid vapor expansions adjacent the element causing it to undergo repeated pulse like movements, imparting a series of high-velocity impulses to an adjacent deposit, thereby fracturing or cutting it. The energy source can be a laser with a fiber optic delivery system in the catheter terminating adjacent the impact element, or a spark generator with a conductor within the catheter to deliver a fluid vaporizing spark adjacent the element.

摘要: A lithotripsy device includes an elongate body comprising a distal tip portion having an end surface that forms a non-zero angle with a longitudinal axis of the elongate body, a balloon circumferentially around a portion of the elongate body enclosing the end surface of the tip portion defining an interior configured to receive a fluid, and at least one emitter positioned at the end surface of the tip portion of the elongate body. The at least one emitter is configured to generate pressure waves in the fluid propagating through the balloon to disintegrate a calcified lesion. A method of using a lithotripsy device is also provided.
