摘要: Cellulose cyanoacrylate is employed either to bond two surfaces or to duplicate the shape of a three-dimensional object. The method is carried out by applying a release material to the object to be duplicated, applying a sheet of cellulosic material formed of wood fibers onto the three dimensional object, then saturating the sheet of cellulosic material with a cyanoacrylate glue and permitting the saturated sheet to cure. The resulting product duplicates the shape of the object. Two surfaces may be bonded by placing a sheet of cellulosic material between the two surfaces and applying the cyanoacrylate glue to edges of the sheet until saturated and allowing it to cure. Paper toweling may favorably be employed as the cellulosic material. This material may also be employed in bone or tooth repair. A break or fracture in an article can be repaired by positioning a sheet of cellulosic material over the break, saturating it with cyanoacrylate glue, and holding the saturated sheet in place with a releasable film. Irritating fumes may be suppressed by covering the saturated cellulosic material with a release film.

摘要: Orthopedic splinting materials and methods for stabilizing an injured limb or extremity of a human or animal comprising applying a foam to the limb or extremity and allowing the foam set to sufficient rigidity, which can be in less than 60 seconds. The foam, such as a Spray Polyurethane Foam, can be sprayed directly on the skin without producing an amount of heat release that is painful or uncomfortable on the skin. Also provided is a kit for stabilizing an injured limb or extremity comprising a dispenser comprising the present foam. Further provided is situ preparation and application of a compression bandage on an injured patient in an emergency or combat situation comprising applying the present foam. A spine board and a method for making the same comprising applying the present foam to the patient's back, then contacting the foam with a board or flat surface before the foam sets.

摘要: It is an object to obtain a water-curable supporting bandage which can be applied to even an affected part of complicated shape with sufficient time, when it is applied by winding it around an affected part such as bone fracture for fixing. A supporting bandage comprising a water-curable polyurethane pre-polymer composition held on the fabric material is applied to an affected part without water supply. Sufficient time can be taken for application of the supporting bandage to the affected part. After completion of the application, the polyurethane prepolymer is rapidly cured by supplying water from outside of the supporting bandage to obtain a sufficient strength. The fabric material of the supporting bandage has from 15 to 33 apertures per cm2 and a numerical opening rate of aperture of from 14 to 35%, and is flexible. This fabric material is covered with a water-curable polyurethane prepolymer composition comprising a polyurethane prepolymer containing a polyol and polyisocyanate, and a catalyst. In this polyurethane prepolymer composition, an ethylene oxide component of the polyol is contained in an amount of 12 wt % or higher.

摘要: The present invention is an improved device to aid in the safe removal of casts from a patient. Even with the advent of safe cast removal tools, such as oscillating saws, there remains a distinct risk that a patient's skin will be cut or burned during cast removal. The present invention provides a protective shield that is mounted between the outer shell of a cast and a patient's skin to protect against cut-through and burning of the patient. The preferred protective shield comprises a woven expanded polytetrafluoroethylene fabric that has proven to be highly effective at avoiding cut-through by oscillating saws and the like.

摘要: The present invention provides an article, comprising: a fabric sheet; a curable resin coated onto the fabric sheet; and a plurality of microfiber fillers dispersed into the resin. The incorporation of microfiber fillers into the casting materials of the present invention adds substantially to the strength of the cured casting material, particularly when the fabric used therein is a non-fiberglass fabric, while not detracting from the handling properties of the uncured casting tape or bandage. The microfiber fillers useful in this invention are generally characterized as being short fibers having an aspect ratio greater than five to one. Blends of microfibers having different aspect ratios may be utilized in the casting tapes of the present invention. Preferred microfiber fillers or blends have an aspect ratio between 5:1 and 200:1, more preferably, the aspect ratio of the microfiber is between 5:1 and 50:1, and most preferably, the aspect ratio of the microfiber is between 10:1 and 30:1.
