    Abstract: A firefighting composition for use in onboard firefighting systems of heavy industrial equipment, such as heavy vehicles and other types of heavy equipment used in construction, forestry, mining, and other similar industries, includes aqueous liquids that include (a) a sodium and/or potassium salt of an organic acid; (b) one or more of an alkylpolyglycoside surfactant, an alkyl sulfate anionic surfactant, an alkyliminodialkylcarboxylate surfactant and a zwitterionic surfactant; (c) an acetylenic diol derivative surfactant and/or a siloxane-based surfactant; and (d) alkylene glycol and/or glycerol.

    Abstract: A method of making a fire extinguishing composition comprises: forming a first aqueous solution of potassium acetate, potassium formate, or a combination thereof; forming a second aqueous solution comprising a biocide, a bio-surfactant and an optional corrosion inhibitor; combining the first aqueous solution with the second aqueous solution to form a third aqueous solution and mixing until the third aqueous solution is transparent; adding a chelating agent to the transparent third aqueous solution and mixing to form a transparent fourth aqueous solution. A fire extinguishing composition made by the method is also disclosed.

    Abstract: Novel fluorosurfactants are provided that contain perfluoroalkyl groups no longer than perfluorohexyl (C6). The surfactants are useful in the preparation of aqueous film forming foams (AFFF) and alcohol-resistant film-forming foams (AR-AFFF) for firefighting. Unexpectedly, these compounds have activity in AFFF and AR-AFFF applications that is comparable and even superior to conventional surfactants that contain perfluoroalkyl groups that are perfluorooctyl (C8) and longer. Also provided are methods of making the novel surfactants, as well as foam concentrates, methods of making foam and methods of fighting fires using foam containing the novel surfactants.

    Abstract: A polymeric fire fighting water additive composition containing an aqueous emulsion of acrylic copolymer, and an emulsifier. The acrylic copolymer is preferably polyacrylamide. The acrylic copolymer has a polymeric weight of 5,000,000-50,000,000 Daltons or between 12,000,000-15,000,000 Daltons and is negatively charged. A surfactant acts as an inverter. The aqueous emulsion of acrylic copolymer is present in a range 35% to 70% by volume in the concentrate and the emulsifier is present in a range 10% to 70% by volume.
