    摘要: A method of forming a composite member comprises placing a heat formable resin adjacent fibers to form a fiber member or members and forming the same into a plurality of for example tubular members. The fiber member is placed against a first mold part. An expandable material is distributed into a distributed configuration and expands under the application of heat. The distributed material is optionally stabilized in the distributed configuration to form an expandable member, which is placed said expandable member adjacent said fiber member. A second mold parts seals the mold forming a closed cavity containing the fiber member and the expandable member. The mold parts are heated, causing the expandable material to expand and form a pressure, which drives the fiber member against one of the mold parts, the mold parts also heating the resin adjacent the fibers. The resin then hardens to form the composite member.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing at least a portion of a sports racquet frame that comprises a step a) of providing a moldable tube structure containing a first inflatable bladder and a second inflatable bladder. The first and second inflatable bladders are positioned on opposite first and second regions of the moldable tube structure. At an intermediate region, the tube structure comprises one or more cross channels, which pass through the moldable tube structure. The method according to the present invention comprises also a further step b) of inserting said tube structure inside a mold forming a mold cavity of a desired shape. Mold members are inserted into the cross channels of the tube structure, so that the outer surface of the mold member faces the inner surface of the corresponding cross channel. The mold members have position and orientation that correspond to the position and orientation, along the string bed plane, of the string port holes, which are to be formed on said frame portion. The method, according to the present invention, comprises also a step c) of pressurizing the first and second bladders, so that the tube structure conforms to the shape of the mold, and heating the mold, so that the tube structure cures. The method, according to the present invention, comprises a further step d) of removing the cured tube structure from the mold cavity and removing the mold members from the cross channels.

    摘要: The inventive fiber manufacturing process is particularly adapted for demanding applications such as sports racquets, including tennis racquets, badminton racquets and other sports applications. Because of the improved strength to weight ratio of components formed using the inventive method, a wide range of flexibility is achieved, allowing use of the inventive process to manufacture, for example, a fiber reinforced (for example, graphite) modular sports racquet, optionally provided with user-selectable weights and/or handle replacements. From the standpoint of the player, this allows a racquet frame featuring self customization. From the standpoint of a retailer, the benefit provided is reduction of inventory. The inventive fiber, for example graphite fiber) racquet frame is filled with a plastic foam and is formed using, for example, microencapsulation technology to time, generate and apply the pressure used to form the graphite composite material of which the racquet is comprised. Advantageously, inner and outer tubular members may be used to form the racquet frame, with the inner tubular member extending around the head of the racquet frame. This compares to the standard industry technique of air injection. The racquet is thus not hollow like conventional graphite racquets, and the walls therefore can be made thinner than those of existing graphite racquets still being of the same strength or being stronger, which gives the racquet exceptional performance. In addition, the overall dimensions of, for example the cross-section, of the racquet can also be reduced while still maintaining performance characteristics.

The tube is formed from a wound laminate in which some or all of the circuits of the wind patterns are sequenced in an arbitrary manner by the designer. The formed tube is placed in a mold having the shape of the frame, auxiliary pieces for handle and yoke sections are added, and together molded to form the frame.
