    摘要: A tangential cutting insert has three pairs of surfaces. A first pair has upper and lower surfaces, a second pair has front and rear surfaces, and a third pair has two side surfaces. The upper and lower surfaces and the side surfaces extend between the front and rear surfaces. A main cutting edge is formed at the intersection of the front surface with the upper surface. A front portion of the upper surface extends rearwardly from the main cutting edge and upwardly toward a central portion of the upper surface as seen in a side view of the cutting insert. The main cutting edge associated with the upper surface is curved and slopes downwardly toward each of the auxiliary cutting edges as seen in a front view of the cutting insert.

    摘要: A milling cutter for chip removing machining includes a milling cutter body with a number of insert pockets in connection with an end of the milling cutter body. An opposite end of the milling cutter body is adapted to cooperate with a tool attachment. An indexable cutting insert is secured in the cutting insert seats, each indexable cutting insert having two substantially identical main surfaces. Two side surfaces and two end surfaces extend between the main surfaces, each main surface including two cutting insert corners, each cutting insert corner including major cutting edge and a minor cutting edge. Parts of each main surface include rake faces. Parts of each side surface and each end surface include clearance surfaces. The cutting insert has a height between the end surfaces and each main surface includes an associated support surface. A perpendicular distance of each main cutting edge to a plane that coincides with the support surface facing away from the main cutting edge increases in a direction from the cutting corner to a crest in the area of a half height of the indexable cutting insert.

    摘要: A rotary cutter is disclosed which includes a cutter body having an axis of rotation therethrough and a cutting insert releasably secured to a forward end of the cutter body. The cutting insert has marginal ridges defining a main cutting edge and an auxilliary cutting edge. The main cutting edge is directed radially outwardly of the cutter body while the auxiliary cutting edge is directed axially forwardly of the cutter body. The cutting insert has faces defining a first rake surface and a second rake surface. The first rake surface is disposed adjacent to the main and auxiliary cutting edges such that an axial rake angle is no less than +30.degree.. The second rake surface is disposed between the first rake surface and the auxiliary cutting edge such that an angle, defined between the second rake surface and the axis of rotation of the body as viewed in a cross-section perpendicular to the auxiliary cutting edge, is no larger than .degree.20.degree.. The second rake surface is formed such that a distance, measured in a direction parallel to the first rake surface and defined between the auxiliary cutting edge and the intersection of the first rake surface with the second rake surface, is set so as to range from 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm.

    摘要: An indexable cutting insert for a milling tool includes an upper side defining an upper extension plane and a lower side defining a lower extension plane parallel to the upper extension plane. A side surface connects the upper side and the lower side, the side surface including a plurality of upper main clearance surfaces and secondary clearance surfaces. At least six identical and alternately usable upper cutting edges extend around the upper side. Each cutting edge has a chip removing main cutting edge portion and at least one secondary cutting edge portion. The main cutting edge portion is formed in a transition between the upper side and one of the upper main clearance surfaces. The secondary cutting edge portion is formed in a transition between the upper side and one of the secondary clearance surfaces between two main cutting edge portions. The upper main clearance surfaces are formed at an obtuse inner angle α with respect to the upper extension plane as seen in side elevation view.

According to said invention, the cutting insert is characterised in that an inwardly-tapered face (2) adjoins the convex face, which allows the cutting edge to protrude, tapered chamfers (13, 14) are provided between the inwardly-tapered faces (2) of the front face on both sides of a planar supporting surface to the outer edge and the width and the thickness of the cutting insert vary from each other by a maximum of 20% and preferably have identical lengths.
