    摘要: The present invention is a nozzle for an injection molding runner system where parts of the nozzle, and in particular the nozzle tip are made from a nanocrystalline material. Nanocrystalline materials used include nanocrystalline copper and nanocrystalline nickel, which have high thermal conductivity and increased material strength. A conventional form of the metal is worked till its grains are reduced in size to less than 100 nm to achieve the desired properties.

    摘要: A nozzle system is provided comprising a nozzle tip supported in a nozzle body with an alignment member. The alignment member has a connection for engaging a corresponding connection located on the nozzle body. The alignment member also has an aperture concentric with the sleeve that has a tapered engagement surface for contacting a tapered engagement surface on the nozzle tip. A first melt channel is defined through the nozzle body and a second melt channel is defined through the nozzle tip. The melt channel in the nozzle tip has a first section that extends along a first axis from an inlet, a second section that extends from the first section at an incline and a third section that extends from the second section parallel to and eccentric with the first axis. The resulting melt channel defines a straight through channel parallel to said first axis from said inlet to said opening.

    摘要: A composite material component for an injection molding assembly includes a first portion formed of a precipitation hardened, high thermal conductivity material and a second portion formed of a precipitation hardened, high strength material, which are integrally joined together. The thermal conductivity of the high thermal conductivity material is greater than the thermal conductivity of the high strength material, and at least one strength aspect of the high strength material has a value greater than the corresponding value of the same strength aspect of the high thermal conductivity material. The high thermal conductivity material and the high strength material can be precipitation hardened together under the same precipitation hardening conditions to achieve increases in the value of at least one strength aspect of the high thermal conductivity material and the value of at least one strength aspect of the high strength material, relative to their respective unhardened conditions.

    摘要: A heated injection molding nozzle having a rear member and a forward member which is removable. A channel extends through the rear and forward members to convey pressurized melt to one or more gates extending through the mold to a cavity. The rear member has an electrical heating element with a spiral portion which extends around the melt channel. The forward member has a tapered rear portion which extends rearwardly into a matching tapered well in the rear member. The taper is sufficient so the tapered portion is frictionally retained in the well to removably mount the forward member to the rear member. This allows the forward member to be easily turned or driven out of engagement in the well to replace it with a new forward member or a forward member having a different configuration to provide a different type or arrangement of gating.
