The terminal position of the forward motion is set to a position where an elastic force of return springs does not exceed a retaining force of a brake device for retaining the ejector pins at the terminal position. The elastic force of the springs are detected during the ejector pins are moved forward. A position of the ejector pins immediately before the detected elastic force of the springs exceeds the retaining force of the brake device is determined and displayed on a display device as a criterial position. The terminal position of the forward motion of the ejector pins is set not to exceed the determined criterial position.

An object is to provide a molding machine and a control method therefor which can reliably determine whether an anomaly has occurred in the molding machine. The molding machine includes anomaly-determination-index obtainment processing means for obtaining an anomaly determination index for determining whether an anomaly has occurred in the molding machine; integration processing means for integrating the obtained anomaly determination index so as to obtain an integral value; and anomaly determination processing means for determining, on the basis of the integral value, whether an anomaly has occurred in the molding machine. In this case, since the anomaly determination processing is performed on the basis of the integral value of the anomaly determination index, high-frequency components contained in the anomaly determination index can be removed. Further, even when noise is generated in the anomaly determination index stemming from jumping, time shift, etc., influences of the noise can be cancelled out. Accordingly, the anomaly determination processing can be accurately performed, and the determination as to whether an anomaly has occurred in the molding machine can be performed reliably.

This invention provides a method which makes it possible to reliably detect malfunctions during the ejecting step without rendering the injection molding machine more complicated. An ejector pin is incorporated in the movable die. This ejector pin is connected, via an ejector plate, a connecting rod, a connecting plate and a feed screw, with a servo motor. The force for ejecting the ejector pin pushing a molded product is measured from the driving torque of a servo motor. In this invention, the relationship between driving torque and elapsed time from the initiation of ejection of the molded product is stored as a reference pattern. The tolerance limit and monitoring interval of driving torque are preset relative to the reference pattern. When the value of driving torque falls outside the tolerance limit during the ejecting step, it is judged as a malfunction, and an alarm is generated to stop the machine in a safe state.

A device and a method for detecting condition of molds attached to an injection molding machine with low cost and high reliability. A load exerted on a product ejecting mechanism or a mold opening/closing mechanism is estimated by a disturbance torque estimating observer. An index value (maximum value or average value) of the load is obtained and stored in each molding cycle of the injection molding machine. Obtained values of the index are displayed as a graph on a display device to indicate variation of the load in time series and thus allow an operator to monitor the condition of the molds.

The force pushing the ejector pin when a molded product is ejected is obtained from the driving torque of the servomotor. A malfunction is detected in the ejection step as follows. First, a reference pattern is obtained in advance, when a molded product is normally removed. As the reference pattern, the relationship between torque of the servomotor and time from the initiation of ejecting the ejector pin or the position of an ejector pin is used. At least one monitoring zone is set based on the pattern and the upper and lower limits of torque of each of the monitoring zones are set. A torque value is monitored in each monitoring zone and when the torque value falls outside the upper and lower limits of any one of the monitoring zones, it is determined that a malfunction occurred and an alarm is raised.

Method and apparatus for control of an ejector mechanism of a molding machine. A procedure is executed without operator intervention for setting limits for controlling motion of movable members of mold assemblies, the movable members linked to ejector pins communicating with the mold cavity and used to assure molded articles are dislodged from a mold element. The procedure, typically associated with a “set-up” mode of control, operates an ejector mechanism with reduced force to drive the movable members to the extremes of travel thereof, senses a “stalled” condition at each extreme, and causes measured position of each extreme to be recorded. Position values intended for use in normal (program controlled) operation of the molding machine are derived from the recorded position values.
