    摘要: A weight distributing trailer hitch and associated method are described. The weight distributing trailer hitch can include a hitch portion for interfacing with a hitch receiver associated with a vehicle. The weight distributing trailer hitch can also include a ball portion to facilitate coupling with a tongue of a trailer. In one embodiment, the weight distributing trailer hitch can further include a spring bar vertically pivotal relative to the hitch portion, and an adjustment mechanism actuatable to selectively adjust a tilt angle of the spring bar relative to the hitch portion to vary preload on the spring bar and adjustably distribute weight of the trailer relative to the vehicle. In another embodiment, the weight distributing trailer hitch can further include a spring bar for distributing weight of the trailer relative to the vehicle, and a load measurement device to determine a magnitude of a downward force on the hitch ball.

    摘要: A weight distribution hitch system comprising a vehicle attachment member comprising a forward end configured to rigidly attach to a vehicle, and a rearward end extending rearwardly toward a trailer, the rearward end comprising an upper portion comprising a trailer attachment member configured to pivotally attach to a coupler of the trailer, and a lower portion configured to receive a moment bar; a tension member comprising a top end configured to be supported by a frame member of the trailer, and a bottom end, and a moment bar, the moment bar comprising a first end configured to either be attached the lower portion of the rearward end of the vehicle attachment member or to be supported by the bottom end of the tension member, a second end also configured to either be attached to the lower portion of the rearward end of the vehicle attachment member or to be supported by the bottom end of the tension member, a first major face configured to face either generally upward or generally downward, a second major face opposite the first major face and also configured to face either generally upward or generally downward, and a bend between the first end and the second end; wherein, when the tension member is in tension, it imposes an upward force on the end of the moment bar that is supported by the tension member, which, in turn, imposes a forward moment on the vehicle; and wherein a preload on the moment bar is varied depending on whether the first major face faces generally upward or generally downward is disclosed.

    摘要: A hitch apparatus includes a housing configured to be attached to a vehicle, a tow bar movably disposed within the housing, and a weight distribution apparatus attached to a distal end of the tow bar. The tow bar is movable relative to the housing between retracted and extended positions, and is pivotable relative to the housing when in an extended position. The weight distribution apparatus comprises a hitch member configured to receive a coupling apparatus of a towed vehicle, and at least one weight distributing member configured to extend rearwardly from the vehicle and be attached to the towed vehicle. The hitch member may be any type of coupling apparatus such as a ball coupler, a pintle hook, a cushioned pintle hook, a swivel pintle hook, a lunette ring, and a clevis pin attachment.

    摘要: A weight distributing hitch assembly includes a shank, hitch head, spring bar and lift assembly. The lift assembly is preferably removably mountable to the frame members of a trailer frame while the spring bar extends below the frame members relative to the ground. The lift assembly mounts a hanger assembly which engages a cantilevered segment of the spring bar to drive the spring bar from a free state to a loaded state to distribute the hitch load to a towing vehicle as well as to the trailer. A lever assembly mounts the hanger assembly to the lift assembly and supplies mechanical advantage to assist a user during tensioning of the spring bar. By moving the lever assembly, the cam rotates about a pivot. As the hanger assembly is engaged with the cam, the hanger assembly is driven from a disengaged position to an engaged position which moves the spring bar from its free state to its loaded state with a minimum of user effort.

    摘要: A device to prevent binding of the swivel coupling in a trailer hitch array which includes a draft hitch projecting forwardly from the trailer, the swivel coupling being of longitudinal pintle type and projecting rearwardly from the towing vehicle, a mount to which the rear end of the swivel coupling is fixed, and a ball and socket unit connected between the forward end of the draft hitch and the mount; said device being comprised of a yoke connected between the draft hitch and the mount independently of the ball and socket unit, effective to always maintain the relatively rotatable socket centralized on the ball whereby to prevent binding and inoperativeness of such swivel coupling which otherwise frequently occurs in response to lateral cocking of said socket on the ball caused by forces transmitted from the trailer to the draft hitch under certain travel conditions. The device is especially adapted, but not limited, for use in a hitch array in which the draft hitch is of load-leveling type.

    摘要: The trailer hitch stabilizing mechanism has an elongated bar assembly wherein each bar is pivotally secured at one end to the tractive vehicle and, at its opposite distal end portion, connected to the frame of the trailer so that, upon endwise axial movement of the bar relative to the trailer frame, the bar causes a horizontal, stabilizing force to be exerted on the trailer frame. The mechanism includes, in combination with the elongated bar assembly, locking means coacting with each elongated bar assembly to render the bar, as desired, operative or inoperative with respect to exerting a horizontal stabilizing force. A control means for selectively actuating the locking means to effect operativeness and inoperativeness of the elongated bar assemblies is provided at a location remote from the locking means.
