    摘要: There is disclosed a method of detecting the presence of a vehicle travelling along a path comprising the steps of; positioning a predetermined number of sensor elements long a predetermined portion of the path at predetermined intervals, each sensor element being configured to take a reading of a magnetic field present in their immediate proximity and to transmit a signal in accordance with said reading; receiving one or more transmitted signals from one or more of the predetermined number of sensor elements; processing the received transmitted signals to identify an active sensor element that transmitted the signal from the predetermined number of sensor elements; comparing the number of active sensor elements against a number of live sensor elements to determine whether a vehicle is travelling along the path; and activating a warning system upon determining that a vehicle is travelling along the path.

    摘要: A railroad car identification system is described herein which includes a magnetic identification record mounted on a railroad car and a stationary sensing means for reading information from the identification record as the railroad car passes the stationary sensing means. The system comprises a channeling means and a follower which is guided through the channeling means as the railroad car passes the stationary sensing means. In this manner the identification record is held in close proximity to a sensing element of the stationary sensing means. In one embodiment the channeling means is a part of the identification record and mounted on the railroad car and in another embodiment the follower is a part of the identification record and mounted on the railroad car. In both embodiments provision is made for modifying information on the identification record. Various modifications of both embodiments are described. Also described herein is an electrical circuit for processing information read from the identification record. The circuit includes circuitry for storing such information on a shift register and circuitry for subsequently transferring such information to a computer.

The information reading unit incorporates a nonlinear excitation circuit used to deliver current pulses to input electrodes of a magnetic field pickup, a decoder in the form of a diode bridge, a unit compensating for the magnetic field of the earth, a voltage source, and an output unit.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for transmitting information between a track bound vehicle and a point on the track whereby the desired information is provided independent of the speed and direction of the travelling vehicle. The signal transmitter is coded according to the desired information, for example, the identifying number of the vehicle, by the selective positioning of a plurality of magnets within a matrix of positions, while the receiver is provided with a plurality of magnetically operated switches, for example, Reed-switches, one for each possible position of the magnet. The transmitter is also provided with an additional gate magnet which is positioned so that it can cooperate with one of a pair of additional magnetic switches provided in the receiver depending on the direction of travel of the vehicle. Actuation of either of these additional magnetic switches causes signals to be simultaneously emitted in parallel from each of the other magnetic switches closed in accordance with the transmitted coded signal. The output signals from the closed magnetic switches are fed to a code converter which, depending on which one of the additional magnetic switches was actuated, provides a binary coded output signal which either represents the actual detected numerical value or its compliment. The coded output signals are then either placed in an intermediate store and subsequently read or recorded, for example, by perforating a tape, or are directly recorded.

    摘要: An apparatus and process for identifying objects marked by a magnetic band or thin filament comprising detecting the passage of the magnetic band in a detection zone comprising a framework having an excitation coil fed with alternating current to produce an alternating magnetic field and a detecting coil balanced with the excitation coil such that no signal normally will appear in the absence of a magnetic body in proximity to the framework. The passage of an object carrying a magnetic band in proximity to the framework producing for each alternation of the excitation field an unbalance in a detecting circuit and the appearance of a signal which is fed to apparatus for the detection and measurement of the phase of the signal with respect to the excitation field. The magnetic band is selectively divided at variable predetermined locations by cuts of variable predetermined extent such that at the time of passage of the bands proximate the detection zone, signals of variable amplitudes are also produced, the decoding of the signals being effected in the detection apparatus by measurement of their amplitude.
