    摘要: A high altitude balloon system includes a dual chamber balloon extending from an upper apex to a lower apex with a circumferential edge between the upper and lower apexes. A deflectable diaphragm is within the dual chamber balloon and coupled along the circumferential edge. The deflectable membrane divides the dual chamber balloon into a lift gas chamber formed by an interior surface of the dual chamber balloon and the deflectable diaphragm, and a ballast chamber formed by the interior surface of the dual chamber balloon and the deflectable diaphragm. Optionally, the dual chamber balloon is constructed by interposing the deflectable diaphragm between an upper and lower balloon panels. Each of the upper and lower balloon panels and the deflectable diaphragm are then coupled together along the circumferential edge to form both the lift gas chamber and the ballast chamber.

    摘要: A method for the exact setting down or taking up of cargo from aircraft is disclosed. When setting down persons or cargo from aircraft which has not landed, the problem arises of an exact setting down not being possible, or only with great difficulty, in particular under adverse weather conditions. The invention provides a method whereby exact and even “spot-on” setting down or taking up of a load is made possible, even if the ambient conditions do not allow the aircraft to be kept steady. With the spatial framework of ropes biased by the aircraft, the position of the load in space is clearly fixed. The load can thus be exactly lowered down to the ground or taken up from the ground, without it being necessary for the aircraft to be still. Here, the aircraft itself is located at an appropriately selected distance above the load. The invention can also be applied to transportation by airships to construction sites, to catastrophe regions, etc.

    摘要: A lighter than air aircraft has a non-jettisonable ballast comprised of a liquefied lighter than air gas contained within an insulated container. The liquefied gas is vaporized and released into the lift compartment of the aircraft which is at least partially filled with a lifting gas. A heat exchanger, separate from the means delivering the vaporized gas to the lift compartment, increases the temperature of the vaporized gas prior to entry of the vaporized gas into the lift compartment, wherein the vaporized gas becomes mixed together with lifting gas and whereby damage to the compartment by excessive cooling is minimized.

    摘要: A ballast apparatus comprising a thin-walled plastic tube containing an open-celled plastic foam or other wicking material which may be selectively impregnated with a liquid which evaporates in air at room temperature. The tube defines an aperture through which the liquid may evaporate, the diameter of the aperture and the density and molar heat of vaporization of the liquid being such that the weight of the liquid which evaporates over time balances the reduction in buoyancy as gas particles diffuse through the balloon over the same time period. A control slide permits the user to adjust the mount of the wicking material exposed to or through the aperture. The ballast apparatus has a widened blade section which may be easily gripped by the user, and includes a tethering opening for attaching a cord or ribbon. The ballast apparatus is secured to the interior or exterior surface of the neck of the balloon using a double-faced adhesive tape.
