Abstract:
An apparatus calipers a signature delivered from a hopper into a collating pocket movable past the hopper. The apparatus comprises a light source and a member supported on the pocket and movable with the pocket relative to the hopper and movable past the light source to interrupt light from the light source. The member moves past the light source to interrupt the light from the light source when a signature is delivered from the hopper into the pocket. A sensor senses non-interrupted light from the light source when the member moves past the light source. The amount of non-interrupted light from the light source is outside of a predetermined range when a misfeed occurs from the hopper into the pocket. Preferably, the member includes a shaft supported on the pocket for rotation about the longitudinal central axis of the shaft and a plate connected to one end of the shaft. The shaft rotates about its longitudinal central axis when a signature is delivered from the hopper into the pocket. The plate moves past the light source to interrupt the light from the light source when the shaft rotates about its longitudinal central axis.
Abstract:
The apparatus comprises a load-bearing frame overlying a stacking stand or shelf and supporting at least one gripping element connected to an entrainer and adapted to pick up a sheet-like element being fed from a transport. The apparatus further comprises an element for supporting the sheet-like element as picked up from the transport and actuated by at least one gripping element during its movement to entrain the sheet-like element, members for disengaging the supporting element from the at least one gripping element, and members for opening at least one of the gripping elements cooperating sequentially with one another to then release the sheet-like element which is deposited onto the stack on the stacking stand or shelf.
Abstract:
Sheets of material and more particularly irregularly shaped sheets, such as hides, fabric or plastic, are stacked on a platform by a structure which is positioned above the platform and to which the sheets are fed by a conveyor, into a pair of rollers which are pressed together to grip a sheet at the front edge of the sheet and drag it to the rear of the structure and release it onto a stack of sheets on the platform. The structure has a single continuous drive which carries the rollers and cams for closing and separating the rollers to grab and release the sheets at preselected points along the structure so that the sheets are laid one after another as they come up the conveyor in a stack on the platform.
Abstract:
A device for transporting printed products has an endless circulating traction member having support frames. Receiving elements configured to pick up supplied printed products and to release the printed products are fastened on the endless circulating traction member at regular spacings on the support frames and are in the form of rollers having a circumference. The rollers cooperate in roller pairs with one another and define between its circumference, respectively, a conveying gap. The support frames have axles extending perpendicularly to the conveying direction of the printed products. The rollers are drivingly supported with one end thereof on the axles.

Abstract:
An apparatus for measuring the thickness of flat products such as sheets or signatures, the flat products being fed from a pile of signatures to a pocket by a pocket feeder. The pocket feeder includes a first and second roller. The first roller is arranged against the second roller to form a nip therebetween for receiving a flat product. The first roller is deflectable when a flat product enters the nip. The apparatus comprises a first proximity target which is arranged on the first roller and a second proximity target which is fixedly arranged on the receiving unit. A proximity switch monitors the targets and a control unit starts and stops counting the pulses generated by an encoder. To calculate the thickness of a flat product, the counted pulses are compared to a stored value.
