An apparatus for transporting sheet-like products includes a belt conveyor with a flexible conveyor belt. The conveyor belt is driven in a conveying direction at a conveying speed. A takeover conveyor has individually controllable clamps which are arranged one behind the other on a carrying member. The clamps are driven in a rotating direction, and the clamp mouths are directed in the takeover region forward in rotating direction. The products fed to the takeover region are in each case pressed against the conveyor belt by a pressing roller at the free end of the first clamping jaw of the clamp. Since the clamp speed of the clamps is greater than the conveying speed, the following clamp thus catches up with the held product and seizes it at the trailing edge.

A collecting conveyor (1) runs through a plurality of deposit stations (2, 3, 4) which are disposed one behind the other in the conveying direction (A) of the collecting conveyor (1). Printed products are continuously supplied from a related stack (8, 9, 10) to each deposit station (2, 3, 4) by means of a related single conveyor (5, 6, 7). Each single conveyor (5, 6, 7) comprises a plurality of gripping devices which are disposed one behind the other and can be controlled individually. At the deposit stations (2, 3, 4) these gripping devices are now opened whereby the released printed products are deposited on the collecting conveyor (1) which is situated therebelow. This collecting conveyor (1) is likewise provided with controllable gripping devices which seize and entrain the deposited printed prducts. At each deposit station (2, 3, 4) the printed products are placed over the printed product or products previously deposited on the collecting conveyor (1). The piles of superposed printed products are delivered to a processing station (11). In this manner the printed products may be collected or gathered together without stacking of these printed products being necessary at the deposit stations (2, 3, 4).

An apparatus for individually conveying printed products arriving in an imbricated product stream, comprising a number of driven controlled grippers revolving and guided in a closed path of travel for engaging the leading edge of the printed products. The gripper drive contains means for temporarily restraining the grippers. The gripper drive has at least one continuously driven sluice for the cycled recall of the restrained or stopped grippers. Operatively associated with the sluice is an endless revolving conveyor element equipped with entrainment members engaging the trailing edge of the products, the entrainment members being provided at a uniform spacing at the conveyor element. The conveyor element, as concerns the entrainment members, is driven in cycle with the sluice and opposite in sense to the sense of rotation or revolution of the grippers. There is also provided an infeed device having a drive operatively coupled with the drive of the sluice by a synchronous control.

Each of the entrainment members serving to seize or engage one of the piece goods. The conveying-active run of the third individual conveyor can be introduced at its end regions into the conveying paths of the first and second individual conveyors. A drive which is controlled by the first and/or the second individual conveyor is provided for the third individual conveyor. The entrainment members, at the overlapping zones of the end regions of the conveying-active run of the third individual conveyor, are controlled to work in opposed relation to the grippers of the first individual conveyor and the grippers of the second individual conveyor.

The shingled flow is conveyed with circulating clamps. Each printed product respectively projects with a leading end over a front end of a following printed product in the conveying direction and the circulating clamps respectively clamp the leading end of the printed products. Each printed product is lifted from below along one side of the shingled flow in a transfer region formed by the shingled flow and the above-positioned transporter. After the printed products are is lifted up, a trailing end of each printed product is gripped by a clamp of the transporter and then the printed products are further transported.
