Provided is a crystallized glass, which has a high fracture toughness value, and besides, is excellent in transparency. The crystallized glass includes, in terms of mass%, 40% to 70% of SiO2, 5% to 40% of Al2O3, 2% to 25% of B2O3, 0% to 15% of MgO+ZnO, 0% to 20% of CaO+SrO+BaO, 0% to 8% of P2O5+TiO2+ZrO2, 1% to 20% of Na2O+K2O, and 0% to 6% of Li2O, has a crystallinity of from 1% to 50%, and has an average visible-light transmittance of 50% or more at a thickness of 0.8 mm and a wavelength of from 380 nm to 780 nm.

[Object] To develop a noble glass composition which is based on a known potassium-zinc crystal glass composition suitable for chemical strengthening, in which most of contained ZnO component is replaced with a combination of far inexpensive other oxides, which is easily to melt in a tank and to form by machine into table wares, which satisfies the legal conditions as crystal glass specified in glass composition, refractive index, and density, and which is superior in chemical strengthening suitability; and to provide a chemical strengthened crystal glass article which has high practical strength as a table ware and can be subjected to washing with an alkali.[Solving Means] The following glass composition gives a chemical strengthened luxury crystal glass article which has a material cost cut in one half as compared with that of the known chemical-strengthening-suitable potassium-zinc crystal glass composition and which shows higher practical strength and proportionally less deterioration:SiO2 in a content of more than 65 percent by weight and 70 percent by weight or less;Al2O3 in a content of 1 percent by weight or more and 3 percent by weight or less;Na2O in a content of 8 percent by weight or more and less than 10 percent by weight;K2O in a content of 8 percent by weight or more and less than 10 percent by weight;MgO in a content of 2 percent by weight or more and 3 percent by weight or less;CaO in a content of 3 percent by weight or more and 4.2 percent by weight or less;SrO in a content of more than 3.2 percent by weight and less than 4.2 percent by weight;ZnO in a content of 0.5 percent by weight or more and 2 percent by weight or less;TiO2 in a content of 0.5 percent by weight or more and 2 percent by weight or less;Sb2O3 in a content of 0 percent by weight or more and 0.4 percent by weight or less; andone or more of SnO2, Y2O3, La2O3, and ZrO2 in a total content of 0 percent by weight or more and 1.2 percent by weight or less.

A lead- and barium-free crystal glass having a refractive index of at least 1.55, with in % by weight, more than 50% and less than 60% SiO2, more than 0.6% and less than 4% B2O3, less than 3% K2O, more than 12% and less than 15% Na2O, more than 4% and less than 11% CaO, more than 0.25% and less than 5% Al2O3, less than 2% MgO, and between 8 and 16% ZnO, with the proviso that the total content of the oxides of Pb, Ba and As is below 0.1%, the total content of the oxides of Ti and La is below 5% and the total content of the oxides of Nb, Ta, Yb, Y, W, Bi and Zr is below 5%, wherein at most 1% oxides of Nb, Ta and Yb respectively and 3% of the oxides of Y, W, Bi and Zr respectively are included.

A glass composition is disclosed wherein the density and the refraction index and the dispersion value of light are equal to or higher than those of conventional lead-containing crystal glass while no lead is contained therein at all. The glass composition comprises 50 to 60% by weight of SiO.sub.2, 5 to 13% by weight of K.sub.2 O, 5 to 8% by weight of TiO.sub.2, 10 to 15% by weight of BaO, 5 to 10% by weight of ZnO, 3 to 10% by weight of Na.sub.2 O, 1 to 5% by weight of CaO, and 0.3 to 0.8% by weight of Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3.
