摘要: Disclosed is a process for preparing crimpable bicomponent fibers from two poly(trimethylene terephthalate) starting materials that differ from one another in intrinsic viscosity. One starting material is characterized by an intrinsic viscosity ≦0.7 dL/g. The relatively low intrinsic viscosity allows the employment of a low melt temperature, with concomitant reduction in the evolution of acrolein, and without significant degradation in the properties or processibility of the bicomponent fiber.

摘要: A method including the steps of extruding a melt including an amorphous polymer composition through a spinneret under a pressure of from 400 to 1500 psi to produce a spun fiber; collecting the spun fiber on a feeding roll without drawing the spun fiber; producing a solidified fiber from the spun fiber. The solidified fiber can have a dpf within a range of from greater than 0 to 2.5 dpf, and a shrinkage less than or equal to 2%. The method can also include collecting the solidified fiber onto a spool without subjecting the solidified fiber to a drawing step. A spinneret for producing fibers of at most 2.5 dpf from a composition comprising an amorphous polyetherimide polymer, the spinneret comprising a die having a plurality of round melt channels but no distribution plates. Fibers produced by the method and from the spinneret are also disclosed.

An individual flow impedance device is disposed within each tip's individual liquid flow path from the pressurized liquid source into each spraying tip. The individual flow impedance devices are disposed within a replaceable sheet, which can be easily cleaned or changed to accommodate the instance liquid viscosity and composition. A high voltage source is applied to create a high voltage potential applied between the tip array and a deposition surface.

摘要: An apparatus for spinning melt-spun filament yarns including a spin beam is disclosed. A polymer melt fed to a spin beam is distributed within the spin beam to a plurality of spinning cans mounted on the spin beam. To reduce costs to the manufacturer for ensuring ease of disassembly of the spin beam, as well as to avoid the need for disassembling the spin beam and having a furnace on hand, the spin beam is provided with an integrated or removably attachable regenerative heater by which the melt-conducting components of the spin beam can be heated to a regeneration temperature of between about 450 to 550null C. to pyrolytically remove the deposits.

摘要: A method and apparatus for spinning filaments of a polymeric material includes a first temperature control arrangement for heating a spin pack to a first predetermined reference temperature greater than the predetermined polymer inlet temperature such that the temperature across a polymer filter holder and the spinneret plate in the spin pack is substantially uniform, whereby the temperature of the filaments emanating from the spinneret plate is substantially uniform. A plate assembly having at least one polymer flow passage therein is disposed between the outlet of the pump and the inlet of the spin pack. A second temperature control arrangement for independently controlling the temperature of the plate assembly to a second predetermined reference temperature is provided. The second predetermined reference temperature is selectable to a temperature above, equal to, or below the predetermined polymer inlet temperature, whereby the temperature of polymer conveyed through the polymer flow passage in the plate assembly is selectably controllable to a predetermined polymer temperature lying within a predetermined range of the second predetermined reference temperature.

摘要: The process for making at least one thermoplastic monofilament of an exact diameter from a thermoplastic material by spinning in an apparatus in which a thermoplastic material is fed to at least one spinneret, which has at least one spinning plate with a plurality of spinning holes for the thermoplastic monofilaments, and forcing the thermoplastic material through the spinning holes with at least one spinning pump. To provide a monofilament of a very exact diameter the process further comprises measuring the diameter of each of the monofilaments in or after the outlet of the associated spinning hole, feeding the resulting measured value of this diameter as the actual value to a controller associated with that monofilament and controlling the flow rate of thermoplastic material through the associated spinning hole according to the difference between the actual value and a predetermined setpoint value. An apparatus for performing the above process according to my invention includes a spinneret, a spinning plate, at least one spinning pump, a plurality of spinning holes in the spinning plate as well as a device for measuring the diameter of each of the monofilaments and a mechanism for adjusting the flow rate of thermoplastic material including a movable stopper for each of the spinning holes and an associated adjusting motor.
