    摘要: A spin pack assembly for use in melt spinning elastic fibers. The spin pack assembly includes a circular breaker plate having a center aperture and several circular patterns of apertures with each circular pattern having a plurality of apertures. Each circular pattern is located concentrically about an axis of the center aperture. The apertures in the outer circular patterns have a greater diameter than the apertures in the inner circular patterns. The spin pack assembly also has a spinneret plate where the exit aperture of the spinneret plate is recessed in the body of the spin pack assembly.

    摘要: A multiplate spin pack receives metered molten polymer and metered amounts of additive components selectively proportioned to produce desired characteristics in extruded fiber. The additive components are mixed together and blended with the polymer by passage through a pattern of mixer channels formed in opposed faces of spin pack mix plates immediately upstream of the spinning orifices of a spinneret. Mixing is produced by splitting the fluids into multiple paths and repeatedly converging the paths into boundary layer contact. Short flow paths of mixed polymer minimizes time and waste in change over procedures.

    摘要: A spinning block for the melt spinning of polymers, consisting of a melt channel, a coupling which is attached to the spinning bar and a nozzle block casing with a filter element and a spinning nozzle plate. A connector for detachably securing said nozzle block casing to the coupling consists of at least two bolts which are positioned symmetrically and perpendicularly to the axis of spinning, which bolts engage cooperating grooves, of a particular configuration, also positioned symmetrically and concentrically to the spinning axis. The bolts can be fixed to the casing or to the coupling. The grooves are provided in the coupling or the casing to complement the location of the bolts. By rotation of the nozzle block casing with respect to the coupling around the spinning axis, the parts are locked together. Simultaneously, as the bolts slide in the grooves, the melt channel is sealed at the connecting surfaces between the coupling and the nozzle block casing, by means of bushing seals which are expanded, in a pressure-tight manner as the casing and coupling are drawn together.

    摘要: An improved spin head for a melt spinning machine is capable of being readily disassembled. The spin head is provided with a tubular sleeve member which defines an elongate open ended interior cavity oriented along the melt spinning axis and a core insert member removably received within this interior cavity. A spinneret is removably coupled to an end of the core insert member and a pump is fluid connected via polymer passageways defined in the insert member between a molten polymer supply apparatus (e.g., a screw extruder) and the spinneret. Heating elements (which, in the preferred embodiment, are integral with the sleeve member) maintain the various structural components at elevated temperatures so that, during operation, the polymer is likewise maintained at elevated temperatures sufficient to maintain it in a molten state. During a shut down period, however, the sleeve member may be heated by these same heating elements to prevent polymer solidification and thus permit the various component structures to be readily disassembled for cleaning. In such a manner, the down time for the melt spinning machine is minimized.

    摘要: A method of melt spinning solution dyed polypropylene filaments, with quicker color changes, comprises passing solution dyed polypropylene melt of a first color at a temperature below 400.degree. F., particularly in the range 350.degree. F. to 360.degree. F., through a plurality of shallow horizontally disposed cavities in a spin pack. Each cavity contains a set of horizontally disposed mesh screens which occupies at least one-third of the depth thereof, the melt passing through all of the sets of mesh screens and occupying only a low internal volume in the spin pack as it passes therethrough and is extruded therefrom. Then, when it is needed to change color, natural polypropylene melt is passed through the spin pack and natural filaments extruded. Thereafter, solution dyed melt of a second color is passed through the spin pack and filaments of the second color extruded, the color change from the first color to the second color being effected quickly and completely by purging through the spin pack.
