摘要： A system of fabric-based devices designed as transistors with tri-state behavior that can measure any geometries on 2D and 3D surfaces. The devices are constructed from layers of conductive materials and flexible sheets that allow signals to selectively cross between layers. Multiple layers of conductive signals can be achieved by controlling the tension of the top and bottom thread, and interlayering conductive, semiconductive, insulating, and semi-porous materials around a sensing layer. The layers can be further modified to include folds and cuts that allow for 2D and 3D bending, stretching, twisting, and curves. Large sheets of devices can be organized into grid-like matrixes, with signal wires connected in a multiplexed fashion to minimize the amount of threads to simplify construction and device communication to a central processing unit.

摘要： A profile stitching apparatus has a power driven sewing machine and a tracker plate having a slotted profile arranged to be moved with the slot in register with the needle of the machine to sew along the profile. A transmission couples the plate to the drive of the machine to allow the plate to move relatively to the machine. The transmission includes two pairs of contra-rotatable pinions each cooperable with a rack and each operable to cause movement of plate in different directions. The transmission also includes structure which ensures that the tracker plate is moved only when the needle is clear of the plate.

Sufficient thickness or bulk for the toy is achieved by providing relatively thick inner elastomeric layer(s). A noisemaking element or “squeaker” may also be incorporated within the toy. One or more additional layers may be added such as one or more interior fabric layers to add strength to the toy. A method of the invention includes steps for making the toy.

摘要： Three-dimensional thick fabrics are made from a laminate of fabric plies by first inserting pointed rods through the laminate to form rows of holes after which needles are reciprocated through the different holes to pull loops of various yarns through the holes. The loops of yarns in adjacent holes are interlocked to hold the plies together. A guide releasably clamped to each yarn controls tension in the yarn while a doffing point is employed to insure that the needle passes through a loop just formed when penetrating the next hole to insure interlock of the loops. Hollow circular objects are formed by winding a length of fabric a selected number of times around a form, following which the pointed rods are used to form holes in the resulting laminate with the needles and yarns being used to form the interlocking loops through the thickness of the laminate. Where the hollow circular fabric laminate is of varying diameter, the fabric as woven is taken up by a roller of varying diameter proportioned to that of the form, while the fabric itself is varied in density across the width during weaving thereof by interweaving selected ones of the transverse fill yarns with the longitudinal warp yarns across only a selected portion of the width of the fabric.

摘要： Cloth lengths are moved along a path by a conveyor belt with an edge of the cloth to be hemmed extending along the path. A stationary fold guide turns the edge portion of the cloth lengths to form a first hem. The lower flight of an endless band moves through the stationary fold guide and emerges from the guide on top of the fold in the hem. A wheel is driven at varying speeds and in unison with the band take up sheave and exerts control on the advancement and retarding of the first fold in the hem. The first fold is moved with the conveyor belt into a second hemmer, and the second hemmer folds both the first hem and the conveyor belt over to form the double fold hem. The folded portion of the belt is allowed to unfold and the double fold hem is maintained in the edge portion of the cloth by a double band system which includes one band moving on the top of the double fold hem and a second band moving on the body of the cloth adjacent the double fold hem, and a sewing machine sews the double fold hem closed between the moving bands.
