    摘要: A pleating machine (20) is provided which allows extremely rapid, uniform pleating of flexible, tubular bodies (28), thereby eliminating the arduous and time-consuming task of manual pleating. The machine (20) includes an upper, stationary, female tubular jaw (90) and a lower, reciprocal, male tubular pleating jaw (92) which are oriented in superposed, substantially axial alignment, along with a drive assembly (26) serving to vertically reciprocate lower jaw (92). An elongated rod-type body support (24) extends downwardly through the upper jaw (90) and presents a pleating surface (88a), so that upon reciprocation of lower jaw (92), the jaw lugs (105) successively engage the body (28) to form pleats (162, 164). The pleats (162, 164) are retained by keeper structure including inwardly extending female jaw segments (98) and weighted slide (89) mounted on support (24).

    摘要: A FABRIC COMPACTOR IS DESCRIBED HAVING AN ENTRANCE NIP DEFINED BY A PAIR OF ROTATABLE FEED ROLLS, ONE OF WHICH HAS A PATTERN OF INDENTATIONS FORMED IN THE SURFACE THEREOF, AND AN EXIT PASSAGE DEFINED BY A ROTATABLE RETARDER ROLL IN COOPERATION WITH ONE OF THE FEED ROLLS. THE THREE ROLLS, THE ENTRANCE NIP, AND THE EXIT PASSAGE DEFINE A COMPRESSION ZONE SUBSTANTIALLY THICKER THAN THE FABRIC TO BE COMPACTED. THE FABRIC IN WHICH A PATTERN OF SMALL PLEATS TO BE FORMED IS INTRODUCED INTO THE COMPRESSION ZONE THROUGH THE FEED NIP, THE FEED ROLLS ROTATING AT ESSENTIALLY THE SAME LINEAR SPEED. THE RETARDER ROLL ROTATES AT A SOMEWHAT SLOWER SPEED THAN THE FEED ROLLS, THUS RETARDING THE MOVEMENT OF THE FABRIC THROUGH THE COMPRESSION ZONE. AS A RESULT OF THIS RETARDATION, A PORTION OF THE FABRIC IN THE COMPRESSION ZONE AND JUST LEAVING THE NIP IS FORCED INTO THE EXIT SIDE OF THE NIP AGAINST THE SURFACE OF THE FEED ROLLS AND INTO THE INDENTATIONS IN THE SURFACE OF ONE OF THE FEED ROLLS.     RESULT, THE EXTENSIBLE FABRIC PRODUCED IS COMPRESSED IN THE LENGTHWISE DIRECTION AND HAS A PLURALITY OF DISCONTINNOUS PLEATS EXTENDING ACROSS THE FABRIC, THE DISCONTINNOUS PLEATS BEING MADE UP OF SMALL PLEATS HAVING INTERPOSED BETWEEN THEM PLEATS OF A LARGER SIZE TO FORM A PLEAT PATTERN OF SMALL AND LARGER PLEATS EXTENDING ACROSS THE FABRIC.

    摘要: A machine for producing zigzag folds in continuous business forms or like strip material. The strip material moves over a horizontal feed roller and then downward between a pair of opposed endless belt units to an underlying support surface. A hold-down roller is biased to engage the feed roller, with the material sandwiched therebetween, immediately above the point at which the material discharges from the feed roller. The material, upon engagement with the support surface, loops alternately in opposite directions beneath the belt units and between spaced stops, one of which is rounded so as to allow for a smooth continuous movement of the folded material therebeyond. Material boosting means periodically engage the looped material immediately prior to engagement with the stops so as to insure a proper movement thereagainst.
