    摘要: Method for drying and/or cooling a web in which a web is passed over an arcuate circumference of a blow device, a gas is directed from an interior of the blow device at the web through first openings formed in a mantle of the device to form a support zone between the mantle and the web, and moistened exhaust gas is drawn from the support zone into the interior of the blow device through second openings formed in the mantle. A revolving edge support is arranged at each end of the blow device to support the web during the passage of the web over the circumference of the blow device, the edge supports being separate from the blow device, and the edge supports include interior circumferential and/or friction surfaces to seal the support zone.

    摘要: A blowbox for use in a plant for drying a material web includes an essentially horizontal box wall having formed therein circular orifices and eyelid perforations each of which includes a slit extending in parallel with the center line of the upper box wall. A depression is formed m the upper box wall adjacent one side of the slit. The eyelid perforations are arranged in two rows and parallel with the center line and together they form a zigzag pattern about the center line that intersects the depressions of the eyelid perforations in both rows. The orifices are disposed in a first and second pair of rows with both rows in each pair positioned on either side of and spaced equally from the center line. The upper box wall has a shallow continuous arcuate shape across its entire width.

    摘要: The invention comprises improved web-processing apparatus. The web-processing apparatus comprises an improved dryer with air-turn apparatus for flotatingly supporting a web and, preferably, for changing a direction of web movement. The air-turn apparatus may be used in the web dryer or with other suitable web-processing equipment, particularly in applications where a coated web side faces the air-turn apparatus. Preferred forms of the air-turn apparatus comprise a body having an outer surface defining a web flotation zone facing a coated side of the web and a plurality of openings in the body positioned along the web flotation zone. An air-conducting conduit provides pressurized air to the body and body openings thereby forming an air cushion at the web flotation zone on which the coated web is flotatingly supported without contacting the body.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for restrained paper drying in order to produce high performance paper with enhanced stiffness and, in the process, substantially improve paper properties and reduce fiber usage. The paper web is held in a restrained position on a fabric by air suction imposed from beneath the web and is of sufficient application to prevent shrinkage of the web. The web is simultaneously dried by high velocity, high temperature air or superheated steam. For improved finish properties, the wet paper web may be pressed onto a polished heated metal cylinder with restraint being imposed by gluing.
