Such glass pane has a sealant strip applied to the entire perimeter thereof. The strip can also be initially applied existing window pane. The glass and strip are then placed onto the existing windowpane to secure such glass pane to the windowpane and sash. Thereafter a stop is placed around the entire perimeter of the glass pane and is secured to the sash.

Method and apparatus for converting a single glazed wall structure into a double glazed wall structure. The apparatus comprises a spacer element supportable from the wall structure frame on one side of the existing glazing panel and the element includes a stop surface parallel and facing an edge portion of a second glazing panel to be installed parallel of the first glazing panel. A seal is provided around an edge portion of the second glazing panel in position adjacent the spacing element thereby forming a dead air space between the first and second glazing panels to provide a double glazed wall structure having much improved heat insulating characteristics in comparison to the pre-existing single glazed wall structure.In accordance with the method of the invention, a spacer element is positioned on one side of the existing glazing panel around the frame and a second glazing panel is then installed in spaced parallel relation with the existing panel adjacent the spacer element. A seal is formed between the first and second glazing panels to provide a sealed air space therebetween with a resulting wall structure having excellent heat insulating characteristics.

A method for repairing or upgrading of existing insulated glass units already installed into a window framing or curtain wall system is provided. The method includes removing an inside glass stop from a window framing housing the insulated glass unit to provide access to an inner glass panel and detaching the inner glass panel from an outer glass panel via a breaking or altering of the separator, with the outer glass panel being retained in place within the window framing. The method also includes applying a new separator to the inner glass panel and/or the outer glass panel, reaffixing the inner glass panel to the outer glass panel while maintaining a space between the inner glass panel and the outer glass panel to form a hermetically sealed cavity therebetween, and reinstalling the inside glass stop back onto the window framing, to secure the inner glass panel in place.

The unit comprises N+1 glass panes arranged with adjacent panes in spaced apart, sealed and parallel relationships with one another. The panes include an outer glass pane of a first size and at least one smaller glass pane, the smaller glass pane being positioned inward from a peripheral edge of the outer glass plane. The unit is installed on the existing curtain wall to position outside edges of N out of the N+1 glass panes of the sealed unit, including the outer glass pane, into the channels of the corresponding framing members and position each remaining pane at a position further inward relative to an interior space of the building.
