    摘要: A collapsible cutter bit or rock head for use with an underground auger boring machine has an expanded position for cutting rock in front of an underground pipe and a collapsed position for withdrawing the rock head through the underground pipe. The auger boring machine is configured to bore a passage through a body of soil and rock and simultaneously lay the underground pipe in the passage. Forward rotation of the cutter bit causes expansion while collapse of the cutter bit may be driven by reverse rotation of the cutter bit or another mechanism.

    摘要: A bottom hole assembly in a casing-while-drilling operation is retrieved by displacing the fluid in the casing string with a less dense fluid than the fluid in the annulus. The bottom hole assembly moves upward in the casing string in response to an upward force due to the different densities of fluid in the casing string and in the annulus. Displaced fluid flows out of the casing string and through a restrictive orifice of a choke. The flow area of the orifice is varied as the bottom hole assembly moves upward to control the rate at which the bottom hole assembly moves upward.

    摘要: A retractable drill bit system 10 comprises a drive sub 18 which is adapted for connection to a lower end of a drill 12, a tool 20 for installing and retracting drill bit segments 22 from the drive sub 18; and an insert 24 for selectively locking the bit segments 22 to an end of the drive sub 18 and releasing the bit segments 22. A plurality of recesses 5B are formed about an inner circumferential wall at one end of the drive sub 18 and a landing seat 32 formed about the inner wall upstream of the recesses 58. The area of the interior wall between the landing seat 32 and recesses 58 is profiled with a series of tapered and level surfaces. The tool 20 includes a slidable cradle 176 extending from one end about which the bit segments 22 are held during installation and retrieval. The bit segments 22 being held in place about the cradle by an elastic band 198. The insert 24 is provided at one end with a series of keyways 218 which locate over the bit segments 22 when the bit segments are locked to the drive sub 18. The insert 24 is always retained within the drive sub 18. Bit segments 22 are carried by the tool 20 to the drive sub 18 and locked in place by the insert 24. The tool 20 can then be withdrawn and the drill 12 operated in the normal manner. To retrieve the bit segments 22, the tool 20 is relowered into the drill and then withdrawn a short distance to retract the insert 24 so that the bit segments 22 collapse back onto the cradle 176 and can then be withdrawn from the drill 12.

    摘要: Wellbores are formed in the earth with elongated, tubular drillstems which include retrievable bit assemblies. The retrievable bit assembly includes a body having locking dogs engageable with cooperating recesses formed in a sub at the bottom of the drillstem. The bit assembly includes radially extendable and retractable arms with cutters thereon for forming the wellbore to a diameter greater than the drillstem, but whereby the arms may be retracted to withdraw the bit assembly through the drillstem with wireline retrieval apparatus or the like. The wellbore may be drilled with a tubular drillstem comprising wellbore casing with a bit connected to the lower end of the drillstem and retrievable through the drillstem by the wireline retrieval apparatus whereby the casing may be left in the wellbore upon completion of drilling operations.

    摘要: A device for drilling and lining holes in earth bores wherein a casing is intended to be lowered into the bore along with the drilling unit. The drilling unit is mounted on a rotating drill. The drilling unit includes a plurality of cutters which can be arranged in the extended active position or can be retracted to a passive position arranged within the casing of the drilling unit. Drilling fluid through an activating piston repositions the cutters between the passive and the active position. The drilling unit includes a gripping device which contacts a groove in the casing which carries the casing down the bore with the drilling unit. Threaded ribs within the drilling unit act as a pump to maintain down hole drilling fluid pressure. A valve is provided in conjunction with the cutters whereby when the cutters are moved to the active position the valve will open allowing flow of the drilling fluid.

    摘要: A flushing device for drilling tools comprises a guide member (10) carrying a drill bit (20) and being rotatably centered by the mouth of a casing tube (11) which is adapted to follow the drilling tool downhole during drilling. The drill bit (20) has a bit portion (22) that projects laterally beyond and is spaced axially in front of the casing tube (11) so as to drill a hole larger than the casing tube (11). There are external flushing grooves (70,71) on the guide member (10) adapted to lead the outflow of flushing medium and debris from the hole during drilling into the casing tube (11). At least one of these grooves (70) extends from front to rear of the guide member (10). One or more further grooves (71) are open towards said rear while ending blindly into the periphery of the guide member (10) spaced from its front. By retraction of the guide member (10) its front enters the casing tube (11). That closes the blind grooves (71) and an intensified flushing is thus possible via the remaining open grooves (70) that extends from front to rear of the guide member (10). The cutting front (40) of the bit portion (22) is flushed rotatively in counter flow to the rotational drilling direction (8) towards the full length groove (70).

    摘要: A drill tool for rotary and/or percussion drilling includes a drill string and a cutting apparatus connected to a lower end of the drill string. The cutting apparatus has an intermediate portion which is rotatable with the drill string and includes an outer surface, a reamer is mounted eccentrically on the intermediate portion for rotation relative thereto about a longitudinal axis. The reamer includes an inner surface facing the outer surface. The reamer is driven by an arrangement comprised of a tongue disposed on either of the inner and outer surfaces and a pair of circumferentially spaced shoulder surfaces disposed on the other of the inner and outer surfaces. The tongue is selectively engageable with the shoulder surfaces along an area of contact having an upper longitudinal end which terminates below an uppermost end of the reamer, and a lower longitudinal end which terminates above a lowermost end of the reamer.
