Abstract:
The disclosure of this application is directed to a downhole tool comprising a central element/member and a sleeve that is rotatably and orbitally disposed around the central element/member. The sleeve rotates and orbits around the central element/member responsive to fluid flowing through the downhole too. The disclosure is also related to a method of advancing the downhole tool in a well by flowing fluid through the tool.
Abstract:
An electric auger-boring machine. The machine has electric motors for auger rotation and thrust. The electric rotation motor rotates the auger at a constant rate when the current provided is constant. The motor may slow or stop in response to changes in torque due to obstructions to auger rotation. Electric motors allow for auger thrusters and actuators to precisely operate. A wireless remote control controls motor and auger rotation and thrust from a distance away from a launch pit. Multiple sizes of product casings may be utilized and the auger-boring machine comprises an adjustable adaptor and saddle for use with a plurality of casing sizes.

Abstract:
A steering head for use with a casing, the steering head having a generally cylindrical body with a first body end with a lead edge, a second body end with a rear edge, and a body surface extending from the lead edge to the rear edge, an outer tube with an internal side generally facing the body surface, the outer tube extending from the first body end to the second body end, and a steering flap disposed on an external side of the outer tube having a first flap face facing radially inwardly and a second flap face facing radially outwardly. A biased hinge is secured to both the outer tube and the steering flap, the biased hinge being operative to retract the steering flap into a retracted position from an extending position.

Abstract:
A boring machine includes a cutter head, an internal casing and an auger that is located within the internal casing. The cutter head and the auger are operationally connected to a rotational mechanism. A rear bulkhead is located at the rear end of the auger, and a rear hopper is located behind the rear bulkhead. The boring machine also includes means for directing material cut by the cutter head into the auger so that rotation of the auger will convey such material rearwardly to the rear hopper. The boring machine includes a transverse conveyor located behind the rear bulkhead in the rear hopper which is adapted to convey material out of the rear hopper in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the auger.

A steering head for use with an auger and a casing engaged to the auger, the steering head comprising: a generally cylindrical body having a first body end and a second body end mountable to the casing, a bore channel concentrically received in the body, a front lip, a rear lip, a body surface, and a lead edge; an outer tube having an internal side covering the body surface and an opposing external side; a steering flap disposed on the external side of the outer tube having a first flap face and a second flap face, a distal end, and a hinge end, the steering flap disposable in a retracted position and an extended position; a biased hinge operative to retract the steering flap into the retracted position; and a powered actuator operative to extend the first flap face into the extended position.
Abstract:
An auger boring machine provides a continuous stroke drive assembly for driving a pilot tube to form an underground pilot hole used for guiding an auger in boring an underground pipe installation hole. The drive assembly preferably drives the pilot tube a distance at least the length of one of the pilot tube segments making up the pilot tube to substantially expedite the process. One embodiment includes a hydraulic piston-cylinder combination with a cylinder at least the length of the pilot tube segment. Alternately, a rack and a pinion drive mechanism may be used with a rack at least the length of the pilot tube segment or even more than twice that length to allow for a pair of pilot tube segments to be added simultaneously to the pilot tube. A lubricant feed system allows water to be pumped through passages formed in the pilot tube and steering head.
