    摘要: In preparation for directional drilling, a wedge supported distally ahead of a tubular drill string is advanced along a parent hole. The wedge is connected to the drill string by a rigid link that extends along a central longitudinal axis through an annular cutting head. The wedge may be connected to the drill string via an inner dropper mechanism that can be engaged by a wireline lifting system. After locking the wedge at a kick-off point in the hole at a desired azimuth, the connection of the link is broken. The dropper mechanism can then be retrieved and replaced by an inner core tube, without moving the drill string. The drill string is then advanced to drill a daughter hole that branches from the parent hole on the azimuth determined by the wedge. Advantageously, there is no need to withdraw the drill string before drilling the daughter hole can commence.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a system for identifying or monitoring the orientation and position of a rotary steerable drill for drilling in bedrock, wherein the system comprising; •a substantially non-rotating outer body element (1) housing at least one reference point magnet (14), and •a rotating drive shaft (3), arranged inside the outer body element (1), that is connected to a drill bit (4) at its first end and to the drill rod (5), and •an inner body element (11) that is arranged inside the drive shaft (3), drill rod (5) or coupling thereof and where the inner body element (11) can be seated and retrieved from surface by means of a wireline. The inner body includes: —a cradle or platform (23) is arranged essentially concentrically inside the inner body element (11) being suspended rotationally free to the inner body element (11) enabling the cradle or platform (23) to freely rotate relative to the inner body element (11). The cradle or platform also includes at least one gravity sensor for at any time measuring the direction of earth's gravity relative to the said cradle or platform (23), and at least one alignment device (19) configured to align said cradle or platform (23) in a known rotational position relative to a reference constituted by the reference point element (14) or the direction of earth's gravity.

    摘要: A rotary steerable system including a steering section having not more than one piston or not more than two pistons in a transverse cross-sectional plane of the steering section. The steering section includes two distribution flow passages each extending from a valve to a piston. A ratio of a distribution flow passage diameter to steering section diameter is at least 0.07. The distribution flow passages are contained within a central area of the steering section, with a ratio of a central area diameter to steering section diameter being 0.5 or less, preferably 0.4 or less. The steering section may include two pistons having center points that are separated by an angle greater than 120 degrees, preferably about 180 degrees. A duration for which only one of the sets of pistons is activated is greater than 110 degrees of rotation of a valve rotor, preferably greater than 150 degrees.

    摘要: A piston has a hydraulic line going through it and is held in position with one or more shear pins or similar breakable retainers. The piston blocks the flow to the window mill circulation ports until a pressure level is reached that breaks the breakable members to allow the piston to move. The piston moves into a larger bore to allow bypass flow through lateral openings. The piston is captured in the larger diameter chamber after passing the lateral openings. Piston movement pushes out some of the high pressure tubing through the window mill where initial rotation of the window mill along the whipstock face causes the extending tubing to be ground off. A rupture disc and high pressure hoses are no longer needed for a significant cost savings from prior designs.

    摘要: A drilling assembly disposed on a drillstring deviates a borehole (i.e., changes the trajectory of the borehole) advanced by a drill bit. A housing disposed on the drillstring transfers first rotation to the drill bit, and one or more directors are disposed on the housing to rotate therewith. Each of the directors is independently movable between an extended condition and a retracted condition relative to the housing. An actuator is disposed on the assembly and is operable provide a second rotation relative to the first rotation. An internal component is disposed in the housing and is rotatable by the second rotation of the actuator to have first and second conditions relative to each of the one or more directors rotating with the first rotation of the housing. The internal component in the first condition extends a given one of the one or more directors toward the extended condition. Conversely, the internal component in the second condition allows retraction of a given one of the one or more directors toward the retracted condition.

    摘要: In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a hybrid drive for use within a rotary steerable drilling tool is provided. The hybrid drive may enable improved directional drilling performance of the rotary steerable drilling tool. The hybrid drive may include a prime mover for rotating a drilling component (e.g., cam used to counter-rotate a steering head) relative to a fully rotating outer housing of the rotary steerable tool. In addition, the hybrid drive may include an electrical motor/generator for adjusting the rotational speed of the cam in response to high frequency changes in rotational speed of the tool housing. The hybrid drive may also include a transmission coupled to the prime mover and the electrical motor/generator for providing mechanical energy from one or both of the prime mover and the motor/generator to rotate the cam (or other drilling component) within the rotary steerable tool.
