    摘要: The subject of the invention is a variable-volume rotary device with a housing (1) comprising an inner spherical cavity, inlet and exhaust ports and a bypass flow path. Within the housing (1) a rotary displacement member with spherical outer configurations capable of revolving around the center point of the spherical inner surface of the housing is mounted. Said rotary displacement member is equipped with a centrally disposed, disc-shaped partition (6) that forms a mutually isolated division in the spherical inner cavity of the housing (1) and has two pivot vanes (7, 8), splitting the housing cavity further into four isolated quadrants, the volume of which vary during gyration. Vanes (7, 8) are similar in shape to orange segments. Vanes (7, 8) are connected to opposing sides of and along the diameters of the central disc (6), and extend in mutually perpendicular planes, allowing for rotary movement. Inlet- and exhaust ports are arranged on the housing (1) so that, when the rotary displacement member is in motion, the inlet port connects only to a quadrant represented by the smaller spherical projection of the disc (6) within the inner spherical cavity of the housing (1), whereas the exhaust port only meets a quadrant indicated by the larger spherical projection of the disc (6) within the inner spherical cavity of the housing (1).

The improved engine provides for maintaining a predetermined, optimal gap between the sealing surfaces during rotation. The gap may be parallel or angled, and may be positive or negative so as to form an interference engagement. The rotors of the engine may be provided with mirror-image sealing surfaces so as to prevent development of excessive back-lash and clearance, and also to permit efficient reverse operation. The sealing surfaces may also be provided with recesses for interrupting the seal at predetermined points in the rotational cycle, for enhanced wear characteristics and/or to accommodate abrasive or shear-sensitive fluids.

    摘要: An engine has a pair of rotors, both housed within the same housing. The housing has an interior cavity which is preferably spherical but need only be partially spherical, the remainder at least having rotational symmetry. Each rotor is mounted on an axis that passes through the center of the cavity, the respective axes of the rotors being at an angle to each other, with the center of each rotor being at the center of the cavity. The rotors interlock with each other to define chambers. Vanes or pistons defined by a contact face and a side face protrude from the rotors. The side faces and contact faces, and the housing interior define chambers that open and close as the rotors rotate. Each contact face of one rotor is defined by the rotation of a conical section of material on the other rotor, so that there is constant linear contact between opposing vanes on the two rotors, at least on one side of the engine. The rotors may face each other or be one inside the other. When one is inside the other, the engine may be used in association with an external combustor. Bearings support the rotors for rotation, and ports are used to allow gases into and out of the chambers.

    摘要: A universally-movable machine part includes a disc member having a disc shaft and a recessed slot defining a bearing surface conforming to a smooth cylindrically-curved plane. At least one planar vane member defines a lower bearing surface conforming to the smooth cylindrically-curved plane of the disc slot so as to be pivotally slidably mated therewith. A rotor member having a rotor shaft defines a groove which establishes a plane passing through a geometric center point of the device and in which an upper portion of the vane member is accepted so as to be pivotal within the established plane. The rotor member also defines a lower surface upwardly and outwardly divergent relative to the geometric center point of the device to permit the rotor member to be pivotally movable about an axis mutually perpendicular with the axis defined by the disc shaft and the axis about which the vane member pivots so that the rotor member will also be pivotally movable together with the vane member. A ball bearing having a diameter larger than the cross-sectional width of the vane member is also provided so as to establish a spherical bearing surface. Accordingly, the rotor shaft is universally movable relative to the disc shaft. A fluid transfer apparatus such as, for example, a fluid pump, utilizing the universally-movable machine part is also disclosed.
