A nozzle is adapted to direct a jet of oil under pressure on an internal combustion engine. It has a variable outlet section, and it is provided with mechanical arrangement adapted to control its outlet section on the basis of the pressure of a fluid under pressure provided to this mechanical arrangement, independently of the oil going through the outlet of the nozzle. In the lubrication system an auxiliary line is provided with first proportional means controlling oil flow toward a nozzle. A control line connects a main line or the auxiliary line, upstream of the first proportional means, to a mechanical arrangement adapted to control the outlet section of the nozzle. The control line is provided with a second proportional arrangement controlling the pressure of oil delivered to the mechanical arrangement. The nozzle can be used as a piston cooling nozzle to direct oil toward a piston of an internal combustion engine.

The invention relates to a piston spray nozzle (12, 112) for cooling a piston (10) of a combustion engine by means of a liquid jet (20, 120) that is directed to a cooling chamber (14) of the piston (10). According to the invention, a member (16, 116) that has an approximately round cross-section and provides the discharged liquid jet (20,12) with a substantially tubular shape is disposed in the center of the discharge port (15, 115) of the piston spray nozzle (12, 112). The inventive piston spray nozzle delivers a directed, laminar liquid jet who shape remains essentially the same until the jet hits the cooling area (14).

A motorcycle lubrication oil cooling system that cools lubrication oil without increasing the number of parts, weight, or cost, and yet is simple in construction. The cooling system is applicable to motorcycles in which an engine is cooled by a coolant pump driven by a crankshaft. The coolant pump is provided on a side face of the engine, and an oil storage chamber capable of storing a specified amount of lubrication oil is provided adjacent to the coolant pump, while a covering member is provided to cover both the oil storage chamber and a coolant pump chamber that houses the coolant pump. The area of material reduction is limited to at least one transition region between the apex lines. A piston for an internal combustion engine, comprising a piston head (2) and at least one cooling chamber (4) that can be supplied with oil and is arranged underneath the head (2) of the piston, whereby the lower limit of the cooling chamber is formed by a sheet of metal that can be elastically deformed and is fixed to the piston. The objective of the invention is to enable the metal sheet (6) to be fixed in a simple manner. A piston assembly includes a piston head having an open bottom cooling gallery and a pair of pin bosses depending from the head and supporting a wrist pin of a connecting rod. A skirt is coupled to the pin bosses for reciprocation with the piston head. A stationary oil spray nozzle extends into the piston skirt from below and cooperates with an oil splash deflector which, at a lowered position of the piston head, directs the flow of oil onto the pin bosses for direct cooling, and at raised position of the piston head, moves out of the way to allow the cooling oil to enter the cooling gallery and cool the piston head.
