A reciprocating rotary engine includes a torus-shaped chamber which is divided into two regions. Each divided region forms a sealed chamber. Each sealed chamber is divided by a piston attached to a shaft whereby four sealed chambers are formed. A power converter includes two power combination devices and two motor/generator dual role electric motors. Each combination device has three rotational axes with the torques of two axes being combined together and transferred to the remaining axis. The two electric motors modulate the torque of an axis periodically in accordance with reciprocating rotary motion of the engine, to provide a counterforce to oscillating power and transfer unidirectional torque to a drive shaft.

Ignition means delivering a spark at the end of each working cycle. An extendable connecting rod assembly converting the oscillating bidirectional rotary motion of the output shaft into a continuous unidirectional motion of the main shaft.

A rotary internal combustion engine comprising an oscillating rectangular piston plate and related fixed and moving parts, a rotary engine body and a stationary engine body. The rotary engine body contains therein the rectangular piston plate carried on a rotatable piston carrier. This piston plate is hinged at one end to a shaft and adapted for inward and outward movement relative to the central axis of the engine. The engine contains a combustion chamber the sides of which are formed by the inner wall of the rotary piston carrier and the surface of the rotary engine body adjacent thereto, the inner disc wall of the stationary engine body, the inner surface of the piston plate and inner surface of the curved member in contact with the outer edge of the piston plate. The rectangular piston plate is fixedly connected to the shaft, which shaft is in turn fixedly connected to a first linking means. The piston plate, shaft and first linking means are movably connected to a second linking means, a throw and a driving gear. The fixed relationship between the piston plate, shaft and first linking means and their movable relationship with the second linking means, throw and driving gear are such that during the combustion-power cycle, when a compressed fuel-air mixture is burned in the combustion chamber and the piston plate is made to oscillate outwardly, the oscillatory motion of the piston plate is changed to rotary motion of the driving gear. The driving gear drives against a stationary main gear fixedly connected to the stationary engine body causing rotation of the driving gear, the rotary piston carrier and the rotary engine body around the stationary main gear and relative to the stationary engine body. The rectangular piston plate is closely dimensioned with respect to the inner wall of the rotary piston carrier, the inner wall of the stationary engine body and inner surface of the curved wall member.

Toroidal internal combustion engine comprising two concentric engine rings. Intake valves are assembled in two faces of one set of pistons and exhaust valves in two faces of the second set of pistons. The intake-valve pistons are fixedly attached to one of the engine rings and the exhaust-valve pistons to the other engine ring. The face of one intake-valve piston and the face of one adjacent exhaust-valve piston form boundaries of an engine chamber. Combustion forces on the piston faces force the two concentric engine rings to counter-rotate. The intake-valve piston and the adjacent exhaust-valve piston sweep the same chamber volume at different strokes of the engine cycle. The engine is constructed of CRC material and mounted on a central shaft, with the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold mounted on each side of the engine, providing a lightweight, self-lubricating, highly fuel efficient, and dynamically balanced engine.
