摘要: A continuously variable transmission utilizes a variable eccentric assembly arranged about a central transmission axis. A plurality of input and output vanes are operably interconnected to an orbiter and are sequentially engaged by input and output ratchets that circumscribe them. Positive driving connections are provided between the ratchets and vanes by outer toothed pawls yieldably mounted at the outer ends of the respective vanes. A secondary multiplier transmission can be arranged coaxially with the vanes, which are rotatably supported about the central shaft of the transmission.

The transmission 10 further includes an intermediate member 34 which is positioned between the drive and driven members 12, 14 and which is rotatable about a third axis of rotation 36. A plurality of axially displaceable drive elements 38 is provided for transmitting drive between at least one of the drive member and the intermediate member and the intermediate member and the driven member. The eccentricity of the intermediate member 34 relative to the drive and driven members 12, 14 is adjustable thereby to permit adjustment of the transmission ratio.

摘要: This invention is a steplessly variable power transmission, comprising: an input driven planet gear, having axially disposed teeth, confined to reciprocate in straight diametrical channels in a output driving ring gear. When the teeth also move on a straight line as related to the housing, no rotary drive can be placed on the output ring gear, and the transmission is in a neutral mode. But, when the teeth are forced to curve, as related to the housing, the output gear must rotate accordingly. For example: if the input driven teeth veer away one degree, from a straight line, while the input rotates a full 360 degree rotation, then the input-output ratio is 360 to 1 underdrive. When the teeth path is a circle, the ratio is 1 to 1, but, the extreme lows, allow built-in overdrive gearing. The preferred embodiment has a stepless range from neutral to 3 to 1 overdrive. There are numerous methods to curve the path of the input driven teeth. This application discloses two basic methods and the preferred embodiment uses a combination of the two methods.

摘要: A continuously variable transmission system is provided having an input driving member drivable in alternating motion by a source of input mechanical energy. A ratchet having a ratcheting member and an output driven member is provided, wherein the output driven member is rotationally driven in a continuous rotational direction. A drive spring and a drive linkage are drivingly linked between the input driving member and the ratcheting member, wherein a drive force applied to the input driving member is transmitted to the ratcheting member via the drive spring and drive linkage. A return spring is drivingly linked to the ratcheting member to apply a return force to the ratcheting member. A control apparatus is further configured to selectively vary a deflection curve of the drive spring, wherein the variation in the deflection curve generally determines one or more of a rotational speed and torque associated with the output driven member.

摘要: When second rotating bodies are made eccentric, the second rotating bodies move straight in the radial direction along first rotating bodies. Therefore, the cyclically changing angular velocity of the second rotating body changes so that the side on which the angular velocity is higher than the angular velocity of the input-side rotating body and the side on which the angular velocity is lower are symmetrical to each other. Also, on both of the side on which the angular velocity is higher and the side on which it is lower, the acceleration side and the deceleration side change symmetrically to each other. On the other hand, the angular velocity of the second rotating body such that the movement direction with respect to the first rotating body is shifted 180 degrees with each other with the input-side rotating body being the center changes symmetrically with respect to the angular velocity of the input-side rotating body. Moreover, since the second rotating bodies have the same mass, the radial forces of the second rotating bodies are canceled each other, so that the rotational force always acts with the input-side rotating body being the center.

By varying the extent by which the driving and driven members depart from a concentric relationship, the sprags impart additional motion, by a toppling action, thus providing different drive ratios.
