    摘要: An intershaft seal assembly for use between an inner shaft and an outer shaft within a turbine engine is presented. The seal assembly includes a sealing ring, centrifugal retaining plates, and end rings. The sealing ring further includes a plurality of asymmetric ring segments whereby each asymmetric ring segment further includes a vertical flange and horizontal flanges extending from the vertical flange in a non-symmetric arrangement. At least one slot is disposed along each horizontal flange. The sealing ring is interposed between the centrifugal retaining plates. Each centrifugal retaining plate includes a plurality of tabs extending therefrom. Each tab is engaged by one slot. The sealing ring and the centrifugal retaining plates are interposed between the end rings. Each centrifugal retaining plate is directly interposed between one horizontal flange and one end ring. The vertical flange extends from between the end rings in the direction of the outer shaft. A non-contact seal is formed between an outer sealing surface along the vertical flange and an inner sealing surface along the outer shaft.

    摘要: An intershaft seal assembly for use between an inner shaft and an outer shaft rotatable within a turbine engine is presented. The seal assembly includes a sealing ring, an inner ring, and a pair of end rings. The sealing ring further includes a plurality of asymmetric ring segments whereby each asymmetric ring segment further includes a vertical flange and a pair of horizontal flanges extending from the vertical flange in a non-symmetric arrangement. The non-symmetric seal geometry provides an axial force balance thereby reducing wear and increasing seal life. The sealing ring is disposed about the inner ring. The inner ring includes a plurality of ridges that engage the asymmetric ring segments so as to prevent rotation of the asymmetric ring segments with respect to the inner shaft. The end rings are disposed about the sealing ring and the inner ring. The horizontal flanges separately contact the end rings so that the vertical flange extends from and between the end rings in the direction of the outer shaft. A non-contact seal is formed between an outer sealing surface along the vertical flange and an inner sealing surface along the outer shaft.

    摘要: A controlled gap seal device is adapted to surround a shaft with an annular seal element. A ring is positioned on an outer surface of the seal element, the ring adapted to modify a diametrical dimension of the seal element by thermally expanding/contracting as a function of temperature variations. A housing assembly has an interior enclosing the seal element and the ring, with the seal configured to be generally stationary in the interior. The housing assembly has an air inlet and air outlet in fluid communication with a surrounding environment for directing a flow of gas from the surrounding environment onto the ring to controllably cool and shrink the ring. A method for modifying a diameter of a controlled gap seal relative to the shaft is also provided.

    摘要: A turbocharger has a sealing arrangement between the turbocharger shaft and the bearing housing adjacent to the turbine and/or the compressor housings to restrict leaking of gas into the bearing housing. At least a pair of spaced sealing rings project from an annular surface of the bearing housing into corresponding annular recesses formed on the shaft. The trailing face of the second ring or the opposite surface of the recess has a plurality of radial grooves that define leak passages that serve to maintain a very small flow of gas from the turbine or compressor housing into the bearing housing. Alternatively there is a slot in the second ring to provide the leak passage. This ensures that there is a minimum gas flow so that a large pressure gradient is not applied across the second seal thereby avoiding wear, overheating and collapse of the ring.

    摘要: A device for sealing a rotating shaft that penetrates a stationary housing wall has a sealing ring fastened to the housing wall and arranged between the housing wall and a shaft. The sealing ring has sealing oil supply bores supplying sealing oil into a sealing gap formed between an inner wall surface of the sealing ring and an outer wall surface of the shaft. The inner wall surface has pocket-shaped recesses where the sealing oil supply bores open. The pocket-shaped recesses extend in the circumferential direction of the sealing ring. The inner wall of the sealing ring has at least one circumferential boundary stay that delimits and seals the pocket-shaped recesses in an axial direction of the sealing ring toward the first or second housing side. The inner wall surface of the sealing ring has a circumferential groove that connects the pocket-shaped recesses to one another.
