The present invention proposes a drying tower with grain flow in parallel and sinuous in combination with reverse and radial crossed air flows in form of “Z” oblique for the implementation in the drying of grains, seeds, fodder, and fruit. Therefore, the grains are firstly submitted to a first stage of parallel grains flow and reverse crossed air flow in order to standardize the different degrees of humidity of the grains and of their impurities. In a second moment, these grains are submitted to a sinuous grains flow and radial air flow in the form of oblique “Z”. Such implementation in drying processes of grains upgrades substantially the drying time and the energy spent for such process, generating in this way profit for the food industries.

“MULTIPLE INTERMITTENCE BEEHIVE GRAIN DRYER”, refers to a dryer of seeds and other agricultural products that can be a constructive format honeycomb type dryer designed to provide a unprecedented process of multiple intermittence during fast, gentle, non-aggressive drying process of grains and seeds through complete and safe removal of accumulated moisture, being divided into the following stages: drying-resting-drying-resting-drying, and so on until drying is complete. Exposure time to drying air is monitored and allows recirculation of humid air, it also allows batch or continuous drying with a thermally insulated plenum that removes dirty humid air located in the bottom section, without releasing it directly into the environment, with advantages of low production cost, dry grain of much higher quality, better energy efficiency, environmentally friendly and capable of virtually eliminating any accidental risks.

An apparatus for activating carbon or other comminuted material is described. The apparatus includes a plurality of baffles upon which the material to be activated impinges as it falls through the activating apparatus. The bottom surfaces of the baffles are spaced and configured to define passages for the activating gas. Accordingly, the flow of activating gas through the material is in the form of a plurality of congruent paths which appear as branches of the main gas flow. All the material is therefore exposed to gases having substantially equal activating capabilities and a uniform activation is achieved. The combustion gases, which are given off from the fuel used to heat the activator, are utilized as the activating gases and a venturi is used to supply the activating gases to the activating chamber of the apparatus.

The dual pass airflow defines a temper zone in the grain flow paths adjacent a return plenum and below the heat zone. A cooling zone can be defined below the temper zone and adjacent the return plenum. A recirculating airflow path can provide fluid communication from the return plenum to the fan and back to the heat plenum. There is a conveyor at the upper end of the enclosure for supplying particulate material to the upper end of the drying chamber, a discharge opening at the bottom of the enclosure for permitting discharge of the particulate material from the lower end of the drying chamber and an oscillator for at times effecting oscillation of the baffle plates to, in turn, effect discharge of particulate material through the bottom opening.

There is provided an improved panel bed gas-solid contactor fitted for puffback cleaning and for use with a relatively fine granular material, such as smaller than about 20 mesh, at large gas face velocities (i.e., the horizontal velocity of gas across the panel bed), in which the fine material is prevented from blowing away from gas exit portions of the panel bed by mounting a column of closely spaced louvers next to these portions, providing a second column of substantially horizontal louvers spaced apart from the closely spaced louvers, and filling the space between the two louver columns with a coarser granular material, such as 10-14 mesh. The coarser material is also preferably denser. The contactor is well suited for use at elevated temperatures.
