Abstract:
The invention relates to a high-temperature sensor, which can be used at temperatures of at least 600° C. and comprises a metallic protective tube and a measuring resistance that is surrounded by a ceramic powder. The measuring resistance is connected to the electric cable by means of stress-relieved measuring resistance connecting wires and internal conductors. The latter are provided with a solid and/or flexible insulation consisting of a ceramic material. The measuring resistance and the internal conductors are arranged in a metallic protective tube, which narrows in the vicinity of the measuring resistance. The ceramic powder contains admixtures of oxygen-giving oxide compounds.
Abstract:
A container for molten metal is provided with a temperature measuring device arranged in an opening of a container wall. The temperature measuring device has a protective sheath, which projects into the container and which is closed at its end arranged in the container. A temperature measuring element is arranged in an opening of the protective sheath. The protective sheath is composed of a mixture of a heat-resistant metal oxide and graphite, and the closed end is spaced at least 50 mm from the container wall.
Abstract:
A thermocouple lance for measuring temperatures in molten metals has a protective sheath of multi-layered structure that makes it possible to improve the life expectancy of repetitive measuring services. The thermocouple lance comprises a protective sheath with one closed end and one open end wherein porous heat-resisting ceramic filler is compacted. Embedded in the filler is a pair of W—Re alloy wires dissimilar in their composition from each other. The protective sheath has the layered structure made from the cermet layers each having a molybdenum matrix and other layers of at least one selected from the class consisting of C, MgO, CaO, Al2O3 and ZrO2, both of which layers are overlapped each other in alternate layer. At least the outermost shell layer of the protective sheath is made of a cermet layer composed of any one of Mo—ZrN, Mo—ZrB2, Mo—ZrO2, Mo—ZrC and composite thereof.
Abstract:
Apparatus for measuring temperatures in molten metals are known with a thermocouple arranged in a closed-end ceramic tube, wherein the junction of the thermocouple is located near the closed end of the tube, and with an outer protective casing which surrounds the closed-end tube and forms an annulus between the closed-end tube and the inner surface of the protective casing, the protective casing being substantially refractory metal oxide and graphite. To create a temperature measuring apparatus in which the thermocouple is protected by simple means from chemical destruction and thereby increases the life expectancy of the thermocouple, the annulus is substantially filled with a metal oxide powder and an oxygen-reducing means, the proportion of the oxygen-reducing means being approximately 5% by volume to approximately 95% by volume.
Abstract:
A cladding for a molybdenum body such as a molybdenum tube for protecting the molybdenum from corrosive high temperature environments. The cladding contains oxides of molybdenum, aluminum, silicon and alkali metals in about the following percentages by weight of the total metal content: molybdenum 18-40 percent; aluminum 10-25 percent; silicon 25-50 percent; and, alkali metals 8-12 percent. The cladding may be formed by bringing the molybdenum body into contact in the presence of oxygen, with a refractory containing oxides of aluminum, silicon and alkali metals at a temperature greater than 400.degree. C.
Abstract:
Temperature sensing apparatus for use in the sidewall or bottom of a vessel for containing molten metal. A temperature sensing element is mounted within a sheath which is provided with a sacrificial coating to protect the sheath from premature oxidation such as may occur during a gas-flame pre-heat cycle. The sheath which is being protected against premature oxidation by the sacrificial coating is a composite of a closed end metal tube and a plurality of porous cermet layers of aluminum oxide-chromium oxide-molybdenum with the concentration of molybdenum decreasing in proceeding from the inner cermet layer to the outer cermet layer. The outer cermet layer of the sheath is covered by a ceramic layer of aluminum oxide. The sacrificial coating consists of a layer of zirconium oxide in combination with and covered by a layer of fibrous alumina. The sacrificial coating is typically destroyed by the end of a pre-heat cycle.
Abstract:
A consumable cored wire for measuring a temperature of a molten steel bath includes an optical fiber and a cover laterally surrounding the optical fiber in a plurality of layers. One layer is a metal pipe, also called metal jacket or metal tube. An intermediate layer, also called filler, is arranged beneath the metal tube. The intermediate layer is a rope.
