摘要:
A method of testing for a desired specific gravity of a liquid. The method including the use of a temperature calibration gauge and a hydrometer. The temperature calibration gauge has a thermo sensing end and a readout indicating the desired hydrometer reading at the current temperature of the liquid. The method includes the steps of contacting the thermo sensing end and the hydrometer with the liquid and comparing the readout of the temperature calibration gauge with the measurement indicated by the hydrometer.

Methods and apparatus for measuring density of a fluid. The apparatus includes a shaft adapted to be positioned within a fluid and a biased float disposed on the shaft and capable of movement along the shaft. The apparatus further includes a displacement sensor for detecting a position of the float along the shaft. A method of sensing the density includes positioning the biased float in the fluid and sensing the position of the float to obtain data representative of the density of the fluid.

A hydrometer comprises a transparent container including a top opening, two arcuate dividers extended from both sides of top opening for dividing the interior of container into a measuring chamber and two opposite side channels each having a bottom open end in communication with measuring chamber and a top inlet open to outside, and a pointer pivotably mounted inside measuring chamber and adapted for indicating a specific gravity of liquid (e.g., sea water) contained in measuring chamber A fluid path is formed from top inlet through channel and bottom open end into measuring chamber as container immersed in the liquid to be measured. This can avoid the generation of bubbles. Further, the time(s) of adjustment of the specific gravity of liquid can be precisely determined.

Apparatus including a mass suspended from a filament, and a sensor adapted to sense a change in a time derivative of a spatial position of the mass when the mass moves from a first material to a second material. The change in the time derivative may include acceleration, deceleration, jerk or impact of the mass, for example. The change in the time derivative may be due to the mass being removed from a liquid to a gas, lowered from a gas to a liquid or abutting against a solid surface, such as the bottom of a well, for example. The change in the time derivative of a spatial position of the mass may also be due to seismicity.

An apparatus and a method for on-line, real-time monitoring of a liquid density in a chemical process are provided. The apparatus is constructed by an upright, cylindrical housing that has a cavity defined therein for holding a liquid, and a density indicator mounted inside the cavity and positioned by at least two positioning guides which are fixedly attached to the housing wall. The apparatus may further include a stabilizing plate positioned at the bottom portion of the cylindrical housing for flowing a liquid in a downward direction such that the liquid flow does not cause a turbulent in the cavity so as to improve the stability and accuracy of the liquid density reading. The liquid density can be read either manually by a measuring stick on the density indicator against a graduated scale marked on the cylinder wall, or by optical sensors automatically which are connected to a process controller or an alarm panel to alert an operator or to stop the process machine when the liquid density falls outside of an allowable range.

An sensor for sensing buoyancy force within a liquid mixture stored within a storage tank and an interlock employing the sensor to prevent a respirable cryogenic mixture from being dispensed from the storage tank with an unsafe oxygen content. The sensor has a float adapted to be submerged in the liquid mixture, thereby to exert a buoyancy force referable to the density. The buoyancy force is sensed by a load cell connected to an elongated base element cantilevered from the outlet by a bracket. The mounting of such sensor ensures that the buoyancy force and therefore, the density of the liquid as dispensed will be measured as opposed to liquid density at some other location of the tank. Such sensor can serve in an interlock in which a controller responsive to the load cell and a temperature sensor, also located within the outlet, controls a valve to close the outlet when the mixture has an unsafe oxygen level.

A system and sensor for remotely monitoring the state of the condition of the electrolyte within each of the battery cells of a power supply is disclosed. The system includes a sensor having a dual ball-float and track arrangement for shuttering a pair of light sources and so as to independently detect and differentiate predetermined low electrolyte specific gravity and a low level of the electrolyte. Two multiplexing units receive the sensor signals and display separate indications of each battery and the states detected. The detector uses a gravity responsive ball disposed within a track that shutters one light source at a predetermined low specific gravity and a second level responsible ball within a second track located above the gravity track and ball. The level ball has a specific gravity which is less than that of the specific gravity responsive ball and shutters the second light source at a predetermined low electrolyte level independently of changes in the specific gravity of the electrolyte.

An apparatus and method for checking and measuring the momentary value of a variable physical magnitude, such as a volume of liquid in a container or tank, or a temperature, viscosity, or velocity, for example. The invention comprises a transducer free to follow without friction the variations of the physical magnitude, such as for example the level of a liquid fluid in a reservoir, the transducer having a portion of progressively varying cross-section displaceable as a function of the changes in the physical magnitude disposed in alignment with a sensor normally positioned in a reference position out of contact from the transducer. When a checking or measurement is desired, the sensor is displaced in engagement with the varying cross-section portion of the transducer, and the amount of displacement of the sensor from its reference position to its position of engagement with the transducer represents the instantaneous position of the transducer and therefore the momentary value of the magnitude, such as the level of a liquid, to be checked or measured.

A combined visual and electronic liquid indicator which may be used as a battery hydrometer is disclosed. An outer housing of a generally cylindrical shape receives a centrally located elongated light transmitting viewing rod. The lower portion of the rod extends into a channel at the lower end of the outer housing. A float is retained in the channel by a retaining cage. A second generally cylindrical inner member which fits over the rod and into the outer housing has a light sensor and a light detector secured at its lower end across diametrically opposite portions of the float channel, and the outer housing and the inner member are then sealed together.
