    摘要: An elongated apparatus that measures soil water tension is disclosed, having a hydrogel chamber for receiving a plurality of macro-sized hydrogel particles through its open side and a sealed inner wall, the hydrogel held in the hydrogel chamber by a durable, hydrophilic, and porous window secured to the open side of the hydrogel chamber. The window, when the apparatus is received in soil, transmits moisture between the soil and the hydrogel chamber, causing variable pressure within the hydrogel chamber that can be converted to a measurement of soil water tension on the opposite side of the window. This pressure produces various mechanical effects, measurable by various types of sensors within the elongated probe. A method for measuring soil water tension at multiple depths within a soil profile is also disclosed.

    摘要: A system includes a particulate material sample that contains a fluid medium and a plurality of particles dispersed in the fluid medium. The system further includes a particle analysis apparatus having a sample cell and sample delivery means for delivering the particulate material sample to the sample cell, wherein the particle analysis apparatus is adapted to obtain particle information on at least one particle in that particulate material sample while the at least one particle is in the sample cell. Furthermore, the system also includes fluid manipulation means for manipulating movement of the fluid medium while the particle analysis apparatus is obtaining the particle information on the at least one particle, and a data processing apparatus that is adapted to determine a specific gravity of the at least one particle based on the obtained particle information.

    摘要: A hydrometer for determining coolant fluid antifreeze concentration includes a housing having a pair of spaced openings for inflow and outflow of coolant fluid into and from the housing, a transparent view dome mounted in flow communication with the housing, a pair of identical sets of float balls of different specific gravities, a pair of longitudinal channels defined along opposite portions of the view dome in flow communication with the interior thereof and containing the sets of float balls for longitudinal movement relative to the view dome and for visual observation from the exterior of the view dome, and a dam defined in the housing between and spaced from the flow openings thereof and capable of obstructing the path of coolant fluid flow directly between the openings of the housing so as to cause deflection of coolant fluid flow into the transparent view dome and the channels therein.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for ascertaining the relative amount of two or more phases present in a multiphase flow, such as produced petroleum, through a pipe. Multiphase flow is temporarily diverted into a test section. Normal flow is then restored with fluids trapped in the test pipe. One or more floats of proper densities inside the test pipe are allowed to float to and stabilize at positions representative of the phase interfaces. An electromagnetic, radioactive, acoustic, or other sensor is used from outside the test pipe to locate the interfaces as indicated by the position of the floats. The relative amount of the various phases is then calculated. In an alternative embodiment, the velocity of a piston located inside the test section is also measured to give the total flow rate of the multiphase flow. The total volumetric flow rate, along with the relative phase amounts gives the absolute volumetric phase flow rates.
