A reimageable printing member such as a printing plate for use in flexography, includes a layer having a multiplicity of channels therein. The layer has an open side to which the multiplicity of channels are open. The reimageable printing member further includes a filed generator such as an electrode or a magnetic field generator associated with the multiplicity of channels and generating an electric and/or magnetic field. The multiplicity of channels are individually addressable, thereby permitting the field to be applied to selected ones of the multiplicity of channels so that the marking material within such selected channels can be manipulated to move out of the channel and onto an image receiving substrate brought into contact with the open side of the layer, thereby forming an image on the substrate.

A method is presented for preparing a lithographic printing plate by an ink jet process of discharging dropwise an oil-based ink using electrostatic attraction onto a lithographic printing plate precursor to form an image. The lithographic printing plate precursor has a water-resistant support having provided thereon an image-receiving layer having a lithographically printable hydrophilic surface for forming the image. The water-resistant support has a specific electric resistance of 10.sup.10 .OMEGA.cm or less in an area directly under the image-receiving layer. The oil-based ink is composed of positively or negatively charged electroscopic resin particles dispersed in a nonaqueous carrier liquid having an electric resistance of 10.sup.9 .OMEGA.cm or more and a dielectric constant of 3.5 or less. The resin particles are copolymer resin particles obtained by polymerization granulation of a solution of a monofunctional monomer, a monofunctional macromonomer and a resin for dispersion stabilization.

A method for preparation of a waterless lithographic printing plate by an electrophotographic process comprising forming a non-fixing toner image by an electrophotographic process using a liquid developer on a surface of an electrophotographic light-sensitive element comprising an electrically conductive support having provided thereon a photoconductive layer, transferring the toner image onto a support for lithographic printing plate, providing a non-tacky resin layer having adhesion to a surface of the support for lithographic printing plate larger than adhesion between the toner image and the surface of the support for lithographic printing plate on the whole surface of the support for lithographic printing plate bearing the toner image, and removing the non-tacky resin layer provided on the toner image. The method is suitable for a scanning exposure system using a laser beam of a low power, and simply and rapidly provides a lithographic printing plate excellent in image qualities and printing durability.

A process for the production of a colored image by an electrophotographic route by electrostatic charging, imagewise exposure to light and toning of a photoconductor material with a colorless transparent toner which includes a colorless polymeric binder and a colorless polymeric charge control agent, and transfer of the toner image to a colored layer which is soluble in a solvent and is on a layer carrier, fixing of the toner image and removal of the areas of the colored layer not covered by the toner image by washing out with a solvent. The process utilizes the high photosensitivity of electrophotographic materials, without the possibility of color falsification due to colored toners. The procedure is simpler compared with known electrophotographic processes, since the same toner can be employed in all steps and does not have to be washed off.

A method for preparation of a printing plate by an electrophotographic process comprising providing a peelable transfer layer (T) containing a resin (A) capable of being removed upon a chemical reaction treatment on an electrophotographic light-sensitive element, forming a toner image on the transfer layer by an electrophotographic process, providing an adhesive layer (M) containing a thermoplastic resin (B) only on the toner image, transferring the toner image together with the transfer layer (T) and the adhesive layer (M) from the electrophotographic light-sensitive element to a primary receptor, transferring the toner image together with the transfer layer (T) and the adhesive layer (M) from the primary receptor to a receiving material having a surface capable of providing a hydrophilic surface suitable for lithographic printing at the time of printing, and then removing the transfer layer (T) in the non-image portion on the receiving material by the chemical reaction treatment. According to the method of the present invention, printing plates which produce prints of good image qualities having a lage proportion of image areas can be continuously obtained in a stable manner for a long period of time even when a thickness of the transfer layer is reduced or the transfer is conducted under conditions of low temperature, low pressure and high speed irrespective of the kind of toner employed.

A peelable transfer layer is provided mainly containing a resin (A) capable of being removed upon a chemical reaction treatment on the toner image. The toner image is transferred together with the transfer layer onto a primary receptor. The toner image together with the transfer layer is then transferred from the primary receptor onto a receiving material having a surface which is capable of providing a hydrophilic surface suitable for lithographic printing at the time of printing. The transfer layer on the receiving material is removed by the chemical reaction treatment.
