摘要： A versatile production system in which a communication-memory unit is attached to a product, or to a pallet carrying the product, while the product is conveyed along the production line. The communication-memory unit communicates with a line host controller via line terminals located at production line assembling and testing sites in order to send information relating to the product from the communication-memory unit to the line host controller and to the communication-memory unit from the line host controller. Information can also be transferred from the communication-memory unit to the line terminals for output to a production worker and input by a production worker from a line terminal to the communication-memory unit. In this manner, the communication-memory unit contains manufacturing information relating to the product and this information is electronically updated at each production line site. The communication-memory unit can be emplaced in the side surfaces, top surfaces, or bottom surface of a pallet so as to allow communication and be detachable from the pallet. A pallet could also include an indented storage area or a basket-like enclosure to accommodate subassemblies or test equipment placed therein.

As one example, a machine of the present disclosure includes a supply material input for receiving raw supplies, one or more machine components configured to convert the raw supplies into completed packaging materials, a material output for outputting completed packaging materials created using the raw supplies, and a processing element configured to receive data corresponding to the one or more machine components. The processing element determines using at least one of an initial raw supply level, a completed packaging materials level, one or more current packaging material orders, and/or historical operating parameters of the one or more machine components to determine if additional raw supplies are required.

The machine includes a controller including a processing element and a display in electrical communication with the processing element. In response to a user input or a machine operation input, the processing element selects demonstrative content corresponding to the user input or the machine operation input and the display displays the demonstrative content. Examples of demonstrative content include tutorial videos or photographs illustrating how to operate the machine, how to replace consumables used by the machine, replace or repair machine components, and/or how to package certain items using packaging materials created by the machine.
