Abstract: Methods and systems for use in automating or assisting umpiring of a baseball or softball game are described herein. A location of a strike zone is determined based on video images of a batter standing next to home plate captured by a camera. Locations of a ball traveling towards the batter, and locations of the bat being held by the batter, are autonomously tracked using computer vision based on video images captured by at least two cameras having different positions. Additionally, there are autonomous determinations of whether a location of the ball intersects with the strike zone, and whether the batter made a genuine attempt to swing the bat at the ball, and based one at least one of these determinations, there is an autonomous determination of whether a “strike” or a “ball” occurred. Additionally, an indication of whether a “strike” or a “ball” occurred is autonomously output.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method of tracking individuals and/or objects in a game location using sensor fusion of both active and passive tracking systems. The invention includes a server platform receiving data from both the active and passive tracking systems, and a mobile application able to interface with and/or visualize the received data. By combining data from both the active and passive tracking systems, the system is able to visually track objects and/or individuals in the location using the passive tracking system, and correlate and identify those objects with known individuals and/or objects based on location data generated by the active tracking system. The mobile application is able to both selectively modulate sampling rates for the active tracking system for specific individuals and/or objects and also to label and identify individuals and/or objects on the passive tracking system where the active tracking system is unavailable.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method directed to object tracking using plurality of cameras. The system includes the plurality of cameras disposed around a playing surface in a mirrored configuration, and where the plurality of cameras are time-synchronized. The system further includes logic that, when executed by a processor, causes performance of operations including: obtaining a sequence of images from the plurality of cameras, continuously detecting an object in image pairs at successive points in time, wherein each image pair corresponds to a single point in time, continuously determining a location of the object within the playing space through triangulation of the object within each image pair, determining wall coordinates of a wall that the object is expected to contact based on the continuously determined location of the object and causing rendering of a visual graphic based on the wall coordinates.

Abstract: A sensor system and a method of operating a sensor system including a plurality of sensors tracking a moving object in an area having known bounding surfaces. The apparatus and method calculate a time-specific position of the object based on data and sensor parameters from at least two of the plurality of sensors and determine errors between the calculated time-specific positions calculated. The method and apparatus calculate a minimum system error attributable to the at least two sensors by constraining at least one dimension in the data of the sensor used in the calculated time-specific position of the object associated with the sensor, the constraining based on an object/surface interaction, the minimum system error calculated by solving for modified sensor parameters for each sensor.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating a three-dimensional track a ball in a gaming environment from a single camera. In some examples, an input video including frames of a ball moving in a gaming environment recorded by a camera may be obtained, along with a camera projection matrix associated with at least one frame that maps a two-dimensional pixel space representation to a three-dimensional representation of the gaming environment. Candidate two-dimensional image locations of the ball across the plurality of frames may be identified using a neural network or a computer vision algorithm. An optimization algorithm may be performed that uses a 3D ball physics model, the camera projection matrix and a subset of the candidate two-dimensional image locations of the ball to generate a three-dimensional track of the ball in the gaming environment. The three-dimensional track of the ball may then be provided to a user device.

Abstract: Sports and fitness applications for an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are described. In an example embodiment, a UAV can be configured to track a human subject using perception inputs from one or more onboard sensors. The perception inputs can be utilized to generate values for various performance metrics associated with the activity of the human subject. In some embodiments, the perception inputs can be utilized to autonomously maneuver the UAV to lead the human subject to satisfy a performance goal. The UAV can also be configured to autonomously capture images of a sporting event and/or make rule determinations while officiating a sporting event.
