A performance information analyzer wherein one of tone pitch information data applied thereto in response to progress of performance of a musical tune is analyzed into one of plural performance parts on a basis of a difference in tone pitch between the one of the tone pitch information data and a reference tone pitch information data previously assigned to a predetermined part of the plural performance parts during prior analysis of the tone pitch information and the other tone pitch information data are analyzed into the other performance parts on a basis of a difference in tone pitch between the analyzed tone pitch information data and each of the other tone pitch information data.

The invention relates to electronic musical instruments and more particularly to multi-voice electronic musical instruments employing chord transformation, i.e. instruments, which do not perform chords directly, but transform them to chords close in sound, but with different musical characteristics. The chord transforming method of the present invention includes receiving a close harmony input chord as a list of not less than 3 notes, generating open harmony resulting chord as a list of notes equal to or greater than the number of input notes, of the notes of the input chord included without changes and/or transposed to another octave, as well as outputting the resulting chord, comprises identifying the highest note of the input chord, which is then included in the resulting chord without changes and transposing every note of the subset of the notes to be transposed in such a way, that every transposed note is lower in pitch, than the highest note of the input chord. As a technical result, achieved in the process of working on the task, there have been developed a possibility for a performer of playing close harmony piano style chords and producing open harmony guitar like multi-voice (up to 6 voices) chords with melodic position (highest note of the chord) on its place. This lets a performer build open harmony multi-voice chord progressions with only one hand, controlling melodic and octave position of every output chord in a natural performing way, i.e. getting the resulting chord's highest note identical to that of the input chord.

A chord analysis apparatus which includes a table memory for memorizing a plurality of sound timing patterns in a performance section of a predetermined number of beats, a plurality of tone pitch difference patterns corresponding with the sound timing patterns and a plurality of harmonic tone information data corresponding with the tone pitch difference patterns. In the tone pitch difference patterns, each difference in tone pitch between adjacent tones is represented by the number of semitones. After a performance information data of a desired musical tune has been divided each at two times, a pattern corresponding with the sound timing and tone pitch difference patterns in each divided section is searched at the table memory to read out a harmonic tone information data corresponding with the searched pattern thereby to detect each chord of the divided sections based thereon.

A musical instrument produces nineteen tones in each octave, and the nineteen tones have respective fundamental frequencies regulated to a geometrical series of .sup.19 .sqroot.2 so as to be highly harmonized without difficult in performance.

Left- and right-hand keystroke windows X.sub.L and X.sub.H are decided in accordance with the positions of player's left and right hands pressing keys. When the number of pressed keys in either one of the windows X.sub.L and X.sub.H are larger than a predetermined value, that window is decided to be used as a chord identifying window, and on the basis of a combination of pressed keys in the chord identifying window, an accompaniment chord is decided for automatic accompaniment.

In order to play an automatic performance based on performance information which is stored in a storage device and the like in advance, an electronic musical instrument provides an automatic performance apparatus. The automatic performance apparatus is configured by a performance style designating portion, a storage portion, a read-out portion and an automatic performance portion. The performance style designating portion designates a desired performance style within a plurality of performance styles, each of which corresponds to a specific music genre such as rock music, jazz and pop music. The storage portion, such as a read-only memory, stores a plurality of chord progression patterns with respect to each of the performance styles. The read-out portion accesses the storage portion to automatically read out one of the chord progression patterns concerned with the desired performance style which is designated by the performance style designating portion. Herein, each of the chord progression patterns is given a specific priority, so that a certain chord progression pattern given a higher priority is selectively read out from the storage portion. Then, the automatic performance portion, which is configured by a tone generator and a sound system, plays an automatic performance in accordance with the chord progression pattern which is read from the storage portion by the read-out portion.

Melody note data and chord data are inputted to an automatic arrangement apparatus. When it is detected that a melody note is a nonharmonic note, the melody note is converted into a harmonic note, and an additional note (e.g., a countermelody note) is generated based on the converted harmonic note. An electronic musical instrument comprises such an automatic arrangement apparatus. Melody note data and chord data are inputted to the instrument according to a performance of a player. When it is detected that a melody note is a nonharmonic note, the melody note is converted into a harmonic note, an additional note is determined based on the converted harmonic note, and the additional note is produced as a tone in real time simultaneously with a performance tone.

An automatic accompaniment apparatus employs a chord designating section, a pattern memory, special operation designating section, a pattern read out section, a note conversion section and a tone generator. The chord designating section designates a root and a type of a chord. The pattern memory stores a performance pattern containing note data which designate tone pitches of musical tones. The pattern read out section sequentially reading out the note data from the pattern memory durring the automatic accompaniment. The note conversion section carrying out a note correction operation corresponding to the type designated by the chord designating section on the note data read out by the pattern read out section when the special operation is not designated. In contrast, the note conversion section outputs the note data read out from the pattern memory when the special operation is designated by the special operation designating section. The tone generator generates musical tone signals based on the note data outputted by the note conversion section.

An electronic musical instrument is disclosed which is capable of performing an automatic accompaniment in response to the operation of the instrument by a performer. The disclosed electronic musical instrument comprises an operational unit consisting of multiple keys; chord determination means for determining a chord in an accompaniment based on the state of the operational unit; accompaniment pattern generation means for generating an accompaniment pattern consisting of note data representing a sequence of notes, such that the accompaniment pattern is generated by sequentially reading note data representing at least one note from a memory device in accordance with the progression of a song; a supplementary note data table for generating supplementary note data designating at least one supplementary note for the chord based on the chord type and note data, such that any supplementary note designated by the supplementary note data is a note other than notes designated by note data from the accompaniment pattern generation means; and a tone generator for generating chords consisting of tones designated by the note data from the accompaniment pattern generation means and supplementary note data. With the disclosed device, an automatic accompaniment can be generated which has a pleasing and natural harmony, and which is accomplished with efficient and economical utilization of available data storage resources.
