Abstract:
Prepaid services include associating a plurality of users with a prepaid services account. The account is configured to track a prepaid balance associated with the account as well as to allow at least a subset of the plurality of users associated with the account to draw down the prepaid balance at least generally at the same time. Drawing down the prepaid balance includes allocating a portion of the prepaid balance to each respective user, monitoring a provision of service, and repeating, selectively, the allocating and monitoring.
Abstract:
A method of reserving credit for a mobile subscriber in respect of an IP multimedia service. The method comprises, following initial registration of the subscriber to the IP Multimedia service but prior to invocation of an IP Multimedia service, using the early session establishment procedure to reserve a credit amount at a charging control node and to notify an IP Multimedia Serving Element of the credit reservation, whereupon, at invocation of said IP multimedia service, the IP Multimedia Serving Element is able to proceed immediately with the session establishment.
Abstract:
A technique for managing credit for subscribers of mobile communications services involves using a mobile credit intermediary to manage the credit in a way that makes the credit more fungible than traditional prepaid mobile subscription plans. In an embodiment, the mobile credit intermediary maintains a credit pool that reflects pooled credit of a group of multiple different mobile subscribers and then incrementally purchases, using the credit pool, prepaid mobile minutes in quantities that reflect anticipated consumption of mobile communications services by the group. The incremental purchases are made in increments that are smaller than the balance of the credit pool such that credit remains in individual credit accounts of the mobile subscribers. The credit that remains in the individual credit accounts can be used as a currency for other transactions, for example, for the purchase of goods and services from entities other than the mobile network operator.
Abstract:
A method for controlling prepaid data services of at least two service groups of different charging criteria in a network is described. In the method resources are reserved from the prepayment system. An initial data delivery limit is set in a rating device for each group based on the resources and information about the charging criteria. A message containing information about the initial data delivery limits is sent from the rating device to a measuring device. Proportional data delivery limits are allocated in the measuring device for each service group individually. The remaining resources are reallocated in the measuring device to the service groups based on pricing weights of the service groups to obtain new proportional data delivery limits for each service group individually, the new proportional data delivery limits being for use in delivery of data after a service group has exceeded its proportional data delivery limit. A system for controlling prepaid data services and a communication system configured for provisioning of prepaid data services are also described.
Abstract:
A communication system capable of conducting efficient multi prepaid service and also improving the quality and convenience of prepaid communication service. Service request transmitting section transmits a service request for a prepaid service, and prepaid service executing section executes the prepaid service. Registration information transmitting section transmits registration information for executing the prepaid service. User request receiving section receives the service request and the registration information. Based on the service request and the registration information, prepayment control section performs prepayment control including a process of allotting the balance of prepayment to a plurality of prepaid services to be conducted simultaneously. Prepaid service providing section provides the prepaid service in accordance with the corresponding allotment of the balance.
Abstract:
A mobile switching center of an apparatus in one example generates one or more triggered operations to a prepaid service node based on a connection with an intelligent peripheral component.
Abstract:
A communication method for use in a communications system includes at least one user. The method includes a step of establishing a session for permitting a user to communicate with at least one entity. The method also includes the steps of using a first charging method for one part of the session and using a second charging method for a different part of the session.
Abstract:
According to a method of controlling access to a prepaid packet data communication service, a prepaid server transmits a resource response in response to receipt of a resource request for prepaid resources from a prepaid client. The resource response specifies a quota of prepaid resources no greater than a prepaid account balance of a prepaid service subscriber and a resource usage threshold at which the prepaid client provides notification. The prepaid client then receives a notification from the prepaid client indicating that the threshold of prepaid resources has been reached, and in response to the notification, performs an accounting updating reflecting a portion of the prepaid account balance that has been consumed.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for use in a variety of communications systems providing one or more payment alternatives for communication services and automatically selecting of a group of alternative payment techniques while significantly reducing the amount of interactive activity required from the user. Upon entry of a request to establish communications between calling and called electronic devices, the system initially looks towards a primary service provider. Absent acceptance of the request for service by the primary service provider, for whatever reason, the system automatically reverts to an alternative service provider and/or payment provider by searching data provided by the user and coupled to the electronic device for which a communication link is requested, eliminating the need for any further input by the user in the form of redialing the call, providing data through insertion of a debit or credit card, for example, identifying the alternative payment provider. The data identifying alternative service/payment providers may be contained in a card or chip removably insertable into the electronic device or in a storage device incorporated therein. Capability may be provided for choosing the most economic service/payment provider to be selected for honoring the request for service.
