摘要： A method and device for transmission line testing are provided. The method includes applying, at a customer premises device, a test signal to a transmission line coupled to the customer premises device. The method further includes measuring, at the customer premises device, a reflection of the test signal. The method also includes determining, at the customer premises device, a characteristic of the transmission line based on the reflection of the test signal. The method includes determining, at the customer premises device, whether the transmission line supports a transmission service based on the characteristic. The method further includes generating an output, at the modem device, the output indicative of whether the transmission line supports the transmission service.

摘要： A handheld test device includes a keypad having keys associated with tests that can be performed on a subscriber line. The keys are arranged in rows to correspond intuitively with networking layers of the subscriber line and with an order in which to test those layers. Keys of a first row are associated with testing at a physical layer, of a second row with testing at a DSL layer, and of a third row with testing at a service layer. The test device is connected to the subscriber line at a location between CO and CPE, and powered on. In response to being powered on, without technician involvement, the test device automatically detects at least one of CO equipment and CPE on the subscriber line, and trains the test device with the detected equipment.

摘要： An apparatus such as a tool for testing lines at a network distribution cabinet allows the connection to the network of subscriber twisted pairs. The apparatus includes inputs for the connection of probes adapted to contact pairs of connection terminals of the distribution cabinet for the connection of the subscriber twisted pairs; a line test unit adapted to perform tests on the lines under the control of a programmable control unit; at least one memory for storing the results of the tests. The control unit is adapted to automatically perform a test of the lines terminating at the distribution cabinet according to a predetermined sequence, and to store the results of the test in a structured form in which a unique association is established between a physical position of each pair of terminal clamps in the distribution cabinet and the results of the test conducted on the corresponding lines.

摘要： A novel method for testing a communications circuit is disclosed. The method includes the following steps: (a) connecting an internal balanced circuit to a well-balanced resistor network; (b) measuring a first plurality of real and imaginary components of the voltages with the internal balanced circuit connected to the well-balanced resistor network; (c) calculating an error for the internal balanced circuit based on the first plurality of voltages; (d) connecting the internal balanced circuit to the communications circuit; (e) measuring a second plurality of real and imaginary components of the voltages with the internal balanced circuit connected to the communications circuit; and (f) calculating a corrected balance for the communications circuit based on the second plurality of voltages and the error for the internal balanced resistor network. A novel device and software program that incorporates this novel method are also disclosed.

摘要： In conventional testing, the user is using an on-hand computing device to control testing; however, for the present invention the user is at the access point and the computer is remote, e.g. nearby or in the technician's vehicle, and not being used by the user to run the tests. The present invention provides a means to conveniently connect a customer provided network access device, e.g. a USB “dongle” modem, via a wireless link to the remote computer, which is providing the test application. The computer is remote, and the remote module device extends the reach of the commercial dongle modem so it is not necessary to carry the computer to the test access point.

摘要： Methods are disclosed for testing cable pairs in a telecommunications network. One method connects a test line to a telecommunications switch. The test line is connected to an inactive cable pair. The inactive cable pair has no telecommunications service established for the cable pair. The connection between the test line and the inactive cable pair creates a signal path from the telecommunications switch to the inactive cable pair, thus allowing the inactive cable pair to be tested for faults. This method allows a telecommunications service provider to determine the condition of available, inactive cable pairs.
