    摘要: An image reading device includes a reading member and a skew detector. The reading member reads an image of a passing document at a read position preset in a document transport path. The skew detector detects a skew of the document by selecting one of a first skew detection mode and a second skew detection mode based on information that specifies a method for detecting the skew of the document. The first skew detection mode is a mode in which the skew of the document relative to a transport direction is detected based on an image of a leading-edge section, in the transport direction, read by the reading member. The second skew detection mode is a mode in which the skew of the document relative to the transport direction is detected based on an entire image read by the reading member.

    摘要: A user interface is presented to a remote user via a network, such as through a computer. A preview command is received from the user. A scanning process (e.g., scanning multiple photographs simultaneously) is initiated at a scanner coupled with the user's computer, in response to receiving the preview command. The act of initiating is performed from a location remote from the user. A single scanned image is obtained through the scanner. A plurality of crop selections are received from the user, all of which are made within the single scanned image. Several regions within multiple scanned photographs may be selected for cropping. A plurality of image files are created based on the crop selections. The plurality of image files may be created in response to the user clicking just once on a button presented by the user interface.

    摘要: A method of scanning an image of a document with a portable electronic device includes interactively indicating in substantially real time on a user interface of the portable electronic device, an instruction for capturing at least one portion of an image to enhance quality. The indication is in response to identifying degradation associated with the portion(s) of the image. The method also includes capturing the portion(s) of the image with the portable electronic device according to the instruction. The method further includes stitching the captured portion(s) of the image in place of a degraded portion of a reference image corresponding to the document, to create a corrected stitched image of the document.

    摘要: An optical text scanning device compatible with a small handheld computer such as a personal digital assistant (PDA). The scanning device allows for a clear view of the text that is scanned simultaneous to the scanning process so that the operator can continuously align the device to the text. The scanned images of the text are converted in real-time to standard byte or word characters for subsequent display on the computer's viewing screen. The operator can quickly verify the accuracy of the conversion by comparing the displayed character with the actual character of text on the surface that is being scanned. Scanned text characters are stored in standard digital text files for ease of manipulation.
